Gina Has Been Homed

black bitch Gina

Gina has been homed.

She is a confident, friendly and very loving middle aged, spayed girl who was born on 05.08.2006.

Gina has transferred into us from another branch of the RGT specifically to come into foster care in order to have a better chance of securing an adoptive home. Gina prior to joining us had known nothing of life outside kennels, so at 8 years old she’s now experiencing a few home comforts.

On arrival with the initial RGT branch back in December 2014 Gina was in very poor condition with appalling teeth and very underweight. Her teeth have been sorted out and her weight is heading in the right direction too.

It is early days still with Gina and after the first day (23/02/15) when she was understandably confused at having “landed on a new planet” she has improved hugely in the home and is settling very well to become a truly lovely girl to live with.

Gina mixes well with the other greyhounds in residence and has proved very sociable with them. She’ll sleep near them, but does prefer not to snuggle with them closely. She is happy to put herself into a crate for a sleep, but is equally calm out of a crate provided nothing of interest to her is happening.

Gina can however become a bit excitable, she doesn’t jump up at people, but she will jump generally to show her exuberance and interest (feeding and walking times mainly), she is also a bit of a mouther i.e., she will take your hand, clothing or whatever is within reach into her mouth and pull a little when excited. This is absolutely not an aggressive trait, it’s pure uncontrollable excitement, but she’d be better with older children rather than buysoma.net young ones or her action may be misconstrued.

She has a positively massive appetite and is doing her best to gain some more weight at every opportunity. No leftovers in this house any more! She is a quick learner and in just 2 days has learned not to take food from worktops or your plate. A quick, but firm “no Gina” is remarkably effective.

Gina walks nicely on a lead although as the “world outside of kennels” is still very new to her she is rather unpredictable on the direction of travel front. She has lots to learn and experience still as she seemed to think on her first walk out with her foster mum that the canal was the perfect surface to walk on to try and catch the local ducks! Erm, perhaps not, it was a little cold and wet wasn’t it Gina?

Reflections in glass were a learning challenge for Gina too as she appeared to believe that her own reflection was a strange dog outside that needed a good hard “Paddington bear stare” and a small bark! She’s quite a comical girl, very good at keeping people amused.

Unusually Gina does not like to climb on the furniture, but she’ll lay on a floor level dog bed, go in the crate or even lay on the door mat quite happily. A dog that does not want your sofa is a plus point in many a home. She’s un-tested on stairs currently, but she travels well and is happy to get into and out of a car for trips.

Initial signs are that she’ll be accepting of unfamiliar breeds of dog, but we’ll test this more thoroughly as soon as possible.
