Winston Has Been Homed

Winston black male

Winston has been homed.

He is an average sized, confident and friendly black male who was born in July 2009.

Here is a detailed report about Winston written by his foster family:

“Winston has been in foster care with us for a few weeks now. He arrived on 4th January 2014. He has settled in very quickly with the residents greyhounds Dodger and Ben and gets on well with each of them proving himself to be a friendly, gentle lad.

Winston generally walks very nicely on a lead and he is keen to go out his walks. He is very alert when out walking however and does not miss anything that moves. If he sees a fox or a cat he can be quite vocal and tends to want to get after it, so some distraction techniques and good firm lead control are required.

He likes travelling in a car and is quiet and well behaved on journeys.

In the house Winston is happy to laze around just like any other greyhound, but he also likes to know where you are and often follows you around the house.

Winston gives a wonderful greeting when you come home – he’s well mannered with a happily wagging tail, just nudging you for your attention. When very excited he does “hold your hand”, known as mouthing and completely non-aggressive although this can be disconcerting for people unfamiliar with it.

This boy really loves a fuss, the more the merrier as far as he’s concerned although he is not pushy or demanding he just accepts what is offered to him. He has been totally clean in the house, no accidents from him, always toiletting appropriately in the garden.

He has a good appetite, generally eats all of his food and shows no sign of food aggression towards other dogs or humans. In fact it has been known for others to eat out of his bowl with him or vice versa with no issues. He is however a counter surfer with a considerable reach and quick reactions, so you need to be aware and careful about what might be within his reach. If he does manage to take something though, you can safely retrieve it from him after commanding him to drop it.

Winston has attempted the stairs, but is not yet confident about going up a full flight. More practice and encouragement however might teach him to do them successfully as he certainly can manage the five concrete steps outside and up to the front door.
Winston is happy on various types of flooring including carpet, vinyl, wood etc.

Winston has shown us that he likes to play. He especially likes squeaky toys and chew toys, in fact he has taken to choosing his toy from the toy box when it is playtime and he will allow you to safely take it away from him too. He also likes to chase his housemates around the garden.

This boy is also crate trained and is happy to go into his crate, which is where he has been sleeping at night or when left for long periods of time unattended.

Going to the Vet is also no problem for this boy, he remains calm whilst waiting for his turn and is happy for the Vet to examine him too.

All in all a very loveable, fun, cheeky, gentle lad full of character that really responds to a loving family, paying you back one hundredfold with all the love he has to give and he will make a wonderful pet for a lucky family.”

Winston 2

Winston has met other breeds of dog and at this stage he needs considerable more all breed socialisation before he accepts non greyhounds as friends.

Best with children aged 10 years and over.
