Hi Everyone, my name is Izzy and I am a recently re-homed greyhound.
Follow up:
I have been in my new home for only eight weeks, but so much has happened, I thought you may like to hear about it.
I came from Ireland and met my new “Mum and Dad” two days after arriving. I must say it was all a bit bewildering. One minute I was on a boat, then in a kennel, then in a car and then in a strange place with soft stuff on the floor and small furry creatures who were obviously afraid of me! Huh, like I wasn’t afraid of them, they hissed at me and stuff. SCARY!
Anyway it seemed that Mum and Dad liked me and although I had to go back to the kennel again (vet visit, ugh) they came and picked me up again just a few days later.
Back “home” we went and for the first night it was OK. Warm, cosy and I was so tired after all the to-ing and fro-ing that all I wanted to do was go to sleep.
It was the second night, when they went off “upstairs” (what are stairs?) that I felt so alone. It was dark and there were no other “doggy” noises or smells. “What shall I do", I thought. Now it was nearly 2 o’clock in the morning, but I didn’t know that, so I started calling! (I believe Mum and Dad called it “howling".) Anyway whatever you call it, I did it and “Mum” came running. “Oh Izzy", she said “It’s OK, don’t worry, we are here, go back to sleep, it’s alright.” OK I thought, I will. After a little while though I got lonely again. Why not give it another go I wondered. Hey! Guess what? Down she came again. Result! Mum spoke all nice again, and I thought it will be alright and so I went back to sleep. Didn’t last long! “HOWWWWWWWEEELLLLLL” I went, down she came. Next thing I know my bed is “UPSTAIRS” and so am I, been there ever since! I am such a clever girl.
Now the next thing I had to get used to were those furry things! Silly little creatures, although Mum seems to love them. She calls them cats. Anyway I look up when they walk past and I get a “No Izzy!” from Mum. I look the other way and she says “Good girl"! What’s that all about? I haven’t done anything, but I’m a good girl? That’s OK by me. However as a little time goes by the “black one” (who is a bit braver than the black and white one) starts showing off, teasing really. I was coming downstairs (I’m good at those now) with Mum and she said “It’s OK Izzy, come on". I thought to myself “Look out lady cat I’m coming".
The black one carried on slithering around (probably thinking that I would stop), but I didn’t. “He he.” Right at the last minute she realised that the great big thing (me) is not going to stop! She jumps up, runs off and well, I just had to, didn’t I? No self respecting greyhound could give up the opportunity to chase completely! It’s in my genes. She ran, I chased and Mum shouted “No Izzy"! Just so as I didn’t upset Mum it was “game over". I just have a little fun not frighten Mum, so I let the little black monster go. She shows more respect for me nowadays though!
I’m getting a bit tired now so I think I’ll have a little sleep soon, but I must just tell you about going to visit “Uncle Robin". He lives in a big house with a big garden that has lots of trees and bushes and things.
As I have never been to Uncle Robin’s before, I ran round having a good sniff and generally exploring. It was a very cold day and I had my best coat on. (I’ve got lots of nice things now, including “bling” for my collar.) Anyway, there I was in my coat, sniffing around when suddenly I was up to my neck in FRRRRRRReezzzzing cold water! Dad started shouting “Help, quick,Izzy’s fallen in the pond!” It seems that some time ago there were fish in the pond. The fish long gone, the weed had grown over and I just thought it was grass! So I’m standing there “steaming” from the cold, absolutely soaking wet and boy was I stinking too! The pond was stagnant, full of slimy green stuff, which was all over me and my posh coat. Well what chaos I caused. Mum’s running around saying stuff like “Oh my poor Izzy” and “she will freeze, hurry up and get that coat off her” etc. Uncle Robin got a bucket of hot water and scrubbed me down and then the most delicious bit of all….Auntie Ann and Mum get towels, and they both rub me down at the same time! OOOOOOOOOOhhh it was luvverly and then they wrapped me up cosily and put me by the fire. Heaven
So, in eight weeks I have moved into their nice home, got my bed in their bedroom, got the furry things to accept me and still managed to have “dog fun” in a pond. Oh,life is great! It’s definite “I’M SORTED” Oh, did I not mention that “Im Sorted” was my racing name? Until next time….Happy Christmas from me.
