Hi everyone it’s me Izzy. Well, so that was Christmas! Ever since I went to live with my new mum and dad I kept hearing the word Christmas. What fun!
Follow up:
Mum says I’m a proper dog now because I am getting mischievous! I don’t know what that means, but maybe this could explain it…..
We went to cousin Bella’s house for Christmas, she is just a puppy (black Labrador), nice little thing, bit busy, but she will calm down. Anyway a couple of days before we went, (she lives in Plymouth) mum spent a whole evening in the spare room. We went to bed as usual, but I woke up in the night and got up for a stretch, as you do and remembered she had been in there for ages.
I thought I would go and investigate, I checked around and couldn’t see the cats, so I thought I would be safe from their ringing bells which would give me away.
Wow! There were boxes and bags everywhere, all shiny paper and bows.
Well, I discovered a while ago that Greyhound noses are ideally suited for poking into bags and boxes, anything really, so I had a little poke in the first box, then in a bag and another box. Ooooh I thought, something smells interesting. Carefully I poked around, moving things gently so as not to make too much noise, until I found the parcel that smelled the best. I carefully pulled the contents from the box and crept back to my bed.
Now, I knew mum and dad were asleep, but I also knew I would have to be quiet. I pulled carefully at the wrapping paper, gently as I could until I got a gap, then I managed to wriggle it about, until the prize fell out. Oh heaven, it was a bone!
Then I heard a voice, “What was that, Izzy are you alright?” it said then “What are you doing?”
Oh no, I thought, I’m in trouble now. Sure enough mum had got out of bed and came to mine. It was very dark and so I thought I might get away with it. No chance! “Izzy” she said, in that sort of stern voice “What have you got there?” then “Oh Izzy, you naughty girl that’s not your present, that’s for Bella.”
Me, a naughty girl! Well, what’s that all about, I have always been a good girl!
We had great fun over Christmas. We ate turkey and had lots of doggy presents. We went walking in strange parks and I even went in a river on the edge of Dartmoor. That was a bit of a shock as the water was very cold! I wasn’t really supposed to be in it, but hey it was Christmas!
There was one strange thing though and I don’t really know what to make of it, perhaps someone reading this will be able to let my mum know why this happened. Twice when christmas cooking was going on I got really frightened by the smell, really frightened. Mum said that the only connection was that on both occasions they were cooking roast potatoes in goose fat. Does anyone know why I would be frightened by that smell?
Well Christmas is all over now and we are all back to normal. The cats are a lot happier with me now, I think the black one and I will be friends quite soon and even the black and white one gets nearer to me all the time. I must admit I did give them a little scare the other day. It was really windy in the garden and they were running about chasing leaves. It looked like such fun that I thought I would join in! I ran down the garden to play as well and they both shot up the fence!
How anti-social is that!
I’ve been in the river (with my coat on again). I had to have a shower when we got home because I smelled of river mud apparently. I have played with lots of little dogs in the park and totally ignored mum and dad when they called me, so may be that’s why mum says I’m a real dog now!?!
Until next time, this is Izzy signing off, take care.
