Izzy's Greyhound Blog :: My Latest Escapades

Hi Everyone, sorry it’s been so long since I’ve been in touch, but we have been so busy that time has just flown by. I am currently in deep trouble, laying on the futon in the conservatory, wrapped in towels to keep me warm whilst I dry. I had an impromptu bath brought about by my own misbehaviour.

Follow up:

I thought I would have a bit of a catch up with you all, so here goes:-

What a year! It started off with all that “lurrvelly” snow, wasn’t that great? I loved it, day after day Mum took me to the park where I could race around and around. I think that must be the closest thing to my greyhound heaven! I did get a bit silly sometimes and slipped right up but wow what fun and what a dissapointment when it went away.

After that we went away to a hotel for uncle Robin’s birthday. Now I have never stayed in an hotel before, so it was all a bit strange to find lots of people all staying in the same place. They all seemed to be having a good time though. The only place I was not allowed to go was the dining room where they were all eating! Apparently some dogs try to scrounge food at the table, so none of us are not allowed in the dining room. You would think they would have made an exception for me! I’m such a noble hound and always impeccably behaved, mmmmmm, well nearly always.

Anyway that was good and as the hotel was in the New Forest all the smells were delicious. I had a really good time exploring the huge garden!

After that we had a bit of a quiet time before we went off to stay in yet another hotel, this time it was Dad’s birthday and we went to a great big hotel. Cousin Bella (the Labrador) was there, and cousin Tilly (the Trailhound), so I had lots of company. The best thing about this hotel was Mum and Dad’s bed - it was huge! There was more than enough room for them and in the mornings when I was allowed to get up, there was plenty of room for me as well. I could spread right out and still not touch either one of them.

We had a really good time at the big hotel. One morning we got up really early and cousin Bella and I were allowed to run on the golf course it was wonderful. Mind you I don’t think Bella should have run off with the rake in her mouth! Uncle Jay had a difficult job getting her to give it up and mum said I wasn’t really surposed to dig in the bunkers. I thought that’s what they were there for, but anyway dad raked it all smooth again before we went back to our room.

Things settled down again and Mum started talking about “holidays". Now, I know what that means, and I don’t really like the sound of it cos that’s when they dissapear and leave me with “Spike". Spike’s nice and everything, but it’s not the same. This time though Mum said “Don’t worry Izzy, we are not going to leave you this time. We are all going camping.” Well what’s that? Now I remember, that when they went away before, the great big green bags came out and mum kept putting clothes in them. I havn’t seen any of that yet, but my spare bed has dissapeared under the biggest pile of “stuff” I have ever seen. It’s all big stuff in bags and boxes, dosn’t smell of food or anything interesting. Mum keeps saying “Izzy you will love it.” Love what? I don’t understand. All I know is whatever camping is, it’s going to happen next week, so watch this space and I will tell you all about it soon enough.

Well I supose I had better get on, oh hang on I havn’t explained the reason why I am laying here wrapped in towels. It happened like this:- Ever since mum started talking about the “holiday” she’s been going on about loosing weight too! (Same as always.) We’d started running again, great I love it, especially on days like today when she got up really early in the morning. We went in the car down to the country park just the two of us and as the park gates are not open at that time she could let me run free, because there are no cars that early. She keeps an eye out for bunnies, but I’m not really interested in them. They seem a bit dull to me! Anyway we had a lovely run (well, she calls it running). I was able to jog along, sniffing everything and keeping an eye on her so I could catch up if I though she was getting away. (Dad said that it’s my job to keep her safe.) Anyhow she was up ahead, and as I ran to catch up I caught a whiff of the most delicious smell, but as I was going so fast I had to double back, a quick check showed me mum had already gone up the bank but, I just had to investigate, it was too good to miss. I quickly circled and the smell led me into the long grass. Oooh, there it was. Well I had to didn’t I? No self respecting greyhound could miss the opportunity of such an alluring smell so I rolled and rubbed and rolled again! All the time I could hear her calling me “Izzy, Izzy, what are you doing?” Oh dear, I thought I could be in trouble then, sure enough she appeared at the top of the bank -she had run back and caught me right in the act! “oh!” she said “Look at the state of you” and I have to say I had made rather a good job of collecting my new “PERFUME”
I had managed to get it all over my neck and collar and even some in my ears too! Result!

So now you have the picture, I was marched home in disgrace then had to suffer the indignity of not being allowed in the house until I had received a comprehensive “scrubbing” in the garden. She even used the garden hose to wash me down (although it was connected to the warm tap)! My collar is now also scrubbed and on the line, and I have been told that it is not ladylike to want to smell like the contents of a foxes a…….!!!!!

I know she loves me, and I know she will forgive me, but it’s such a shame I wasn’t allowed to keep my lovely smell. Quick here she comes, better put my most appealing look on and wag my tail gently , till next time, take care love Izzy.
