Izzy's Greyhound Blog :: I'm Just the Best

It’s that time again, more tales from my long tail!!

IT’S OFFICIAL, I AM ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BEHAVED GREYHOUND IN THE WHOLE WORLD, how do I know that ??? What have I done to achieve such an accolade?… well I’ll tell you…….

Follow up:

Hello everyone, it’s me again “Izzy the Greyhound” mum say’s another summer almost over, and what a summer!………………… they usually go to Greece for their holidays but she said once she got me she did’nt want to go any more!!

So we went camping……………. you may remember I mentioned it last time, seems like a lot of work to me, they cram as much “stuff” as they possibly can (including me!) in the car, and then drive for quite a long time, then they get it all out, and somehow turn it all into a sort of house!!, the first time we did it I was a bit scared cos I did’nt really understand what was going on, but when my bed was made up and my dinner bowls were there it was not so bad.

Anyway I am drifting off the point, the first time we went camping was to a place by the beach, it was wonderful, cousin Bella and I went running in and out of the water, and I was able to run as fast as I wanted on the huge great beach, I think mum is sending you a photo of me running. We all had a good time although dad and uncle Jay were moaning a bit about “rubbish footballers and world cups and things” I don’t know anything about that, Bella and I had a great time.

A few weeks later all the “packing” stuff started again, I thought …..hang on here we go again more beach (I love the sand) but not this time.
once again all the “stuff” came out , and this time I just stayed where I was in the car, and let them get on with it, seems like a lot of hard work to me and the sun was very hot, it did look like a nice place though, dad had parked the car under a little tree in the shade and it was very quiet, the only noise was birds singing!… aahh peace so I just dozed while they did all the hard work!
When they had finished making our “home” mum put my bed out under the tree, and the table and chairs for them to sit at, I must say it was very nice, no noisy children running around, no other dogs to disturb me just warm and comfortable on my bed, ………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

oh! what was that funny little noise (waggle the ears) … there it was again,..!
open one eye……….. oh my goodness what is that,.. and that?…….. head up look around………."NOOO IZZY"…….. mum said, NO IZZY!!!,……….. NO IZZY!!! ……….what did she think I was,………….. in one leap I was up and across the field full speed……. there were Rabbits everywhere my whole “raison d’etre” chase the bunnies ooohh!!!!!,

then they were gone,…. all disappeared as quick as that,… where are they gone???????? they just vanished in the bushes, with that mum came running up, “Izzy ” she said “you mus’nt chase bunnies” well now I knew she was having a laugh, “mus’nt chase bunnies what was I put on this earth for? she clipped me on my lead and we walked back to the tent,……… “oh whizzer” she said (cos she calls me that sometimes) I know it’s tempting but you must not chase the bunnies this is where they live, well I know thats not true, all greyhounds know that “furry things” live in that little box at the end of the race track!!!
“I think I will put her in her harness in case she decides to chase them again, other wise she will hurt herself,” she said to dad, he just chuckled and ruffled my head, I laid down again with a big sigh and watched for ages, but there was no sign of them so I went back to sleep.
The next morning mum and I got up really really early and she took me out across the field, where lots of other people were camping and we went through a gap in the bushes, we came out beside this huge river, it was lovely, but guess what!!……………. there were bunnies everywhere.. hopping about,.. just sitting,.. chasing each other ,they were all over the place, ears up I stopped, I knew I was on the lead so I did’nt try to run I just looked……"Good Girl” mum said, well I did’nt feel like being a good girl, just look at them hopping around, I could almost here them saying “nah, nah, nah, nah, na!!
Never mind I thought, this is a lovely day and we are going for a lovely walk, and we did, we went through a gate and into this great big field with a path that went all along by the river, mum checked around and, as it was safe she slipped my lead and we started running, it was great, we went to the waters edge and there were little places where we could get into the river for a paddle, there were ducks and geese sleeping on the river bank, well I soon woke them up!!! and they jumped into the river, there were delicious smells everywhere so I was able to do some serious “nose surfing” as mum calls it!
When we got back to the tent dad was cooking breakfast the smell was “lurrvely” although it was’nt for me I did get a little bacon titbit!!,
We had a busy day and late in the afternoon we settled down again under the tree for a snooze, I checked all around and as there were a few more people in the field now there was no sign of “bunnies” so I dropped off to sleep………………What was that? …….. there it is again! …. waggle the ears, open one eye,.. don’t move the head this time, mum might not notice…. yes there they are again one by one all popping out of the bushes…..toooo much, up with the head “NO iZZY", NO……. oohh it’s not fair I only want to chase them not hurt them, I wriggled forward a bit on my bed “No Izzy, NO…….. she said in her stern voice,( I don’t like that voice, and I don’t like it when she looks at me stern ) I weighed it all up, if I chase the bunnies ( and I could cos I dont have my harness on) I would have fun for a couple of minutes, then mum will be cross and scold me,……… but if I DON’T chase the bunnies, I am going to get “Good Girls” and treats for ages hmmm, wriggle, wriggle, “No Izzy” oooohhh, sigh!!!

HIGH FIVE!!! I am “soooooo” good… bring on the treats, ..sausages I think, I’ll just lay here looking absolutly angelic, basking in glory for all the adulation I will now recieve for “NOT” chasing bunnies, I did it, I managed to stay in my bed and not get up and chase them, I am quite sure I could now do anything, and get away with it. Mum says she’s so proud of me that she is going to send a picture to you, so you can all see me and know that I really am the best behaved greyhound in the whole world!!!

Two weeks later!!!

That was a lovely holiday, each morning mum got up really early and we ran along the side of the river, I admit I did disturb the ducks and geese, (I did’nt chase them but as soon as they saw me coming they did a lot of quacking and jumped in) I secretly thought it was funny and quite enjoyed seeing them waddling off, as for the bunnies well I just ignored them, I learned to ignore the cats, so I just pretended they were cats with long ears and short tails!!!

We are home again now and things are back to normal, I enjoyed my position as the best behaved hound in the world but I am afraid I have “blotted the copybook” ….. gardening!!! I love it, I’m only helping really!!!……… Whoops.. till next time take care.
love Izzy
