Blue and Blitzen Homed, Champ and Nimrod Arrive

We are very pleased to let you know that both Blue and Blitzen have been adopted. Both dogs are doing well and getting used to their new lives. Of course with these boys leaving our kennels it became time to invite the next dogs on our waiting list in and give them their chance of adoption. Nimrod and Champ are the handsome pair who have filled the spaces. Information about the new arrivals and all our other available greyhounds can be found in our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery.

Long stay Blue in his new home

Previously long-stay Blue in his new home. Good luck Blue, we all hope that you’ll have a long and happy life with your new family.

Christmas Homing Dates:

Please note that the last adoption day prior to Christmas will be Saturday 7th December. Normal homing will re-start on 1st January 2014.

Only in exceptional cases and in homes where there are no children resident will we consider relaxing this policy. The forthcoming holiday period can be a very stressful time for people and as such it is not generally a good time to bring a new dog into the home.

This decision has been made with the welfare of our greyhounds at the forefront of our minds. We hope that you understand our decision.

Viewings for greyhounds and potentially reservations will still be ongoing throughout the holiday period, so please continue to check for updates on our web site.

New arrivals:

Nimrod, Champ and Annie are our most recent arrivals.

Greyhounds in foster care:

Annie, Bobby (3 legs), Curly, Niki and Jet are in foster care. If one of our foster dogs interests you as a potential new family member then you simply need to call us and we’ll arrange a mutually convenient date and time for you to meet him/her.

Forthcoming Events:

Sunday 15th December sees us host our final Pet Blood Bank session of 2013. There are still a few appointments left available and it would be fantastic if we could fully book every one of them. Some of the PBB staff travel all the way from Loughborough to come to us and we’d love to see them go back loaded with the maximum amount of blood to save lots of other dogs’ lives.

PBB blood donation white donor

A happy donor (this one now retired) gains an “I’m a lifesaver” bandana in exchange for lots of cuddles, a free health check and a rest while some attentive humans painlessly (anaesthetic cream is used) withdraw some blood and give him fuss and cuddles.

If you are not already booked in and you have a healthy dog aged between 1 and 8 years old who is at least 25kg then your dog would probably qualify to become a life saver. More information about what to expect can be found on our Blood Donation page, otherwise feel free to call Pet Blood Bank for more information and/or an appointment on 01509 232222 during normal office hours.

Foster Home Appeal:

We need more foster homes. Ideally we are looking for foster homes within easy traveling distance of Fleet, Wokingham, Alton or Southampton as we have trusted volunteer team members in those areas who would be able to assist with viewings if a trip to the kennels was not possible.

Abbie black greyhound
Abbie an ex-foster dog has been a year in her adoptive home now. Fostering really help us know the dogs and it gives them a taste of the future. Could you do it?

We prefer foster carers who have some experience of dog ownership and training. Homes without cats and young children are especially sought because homes with young children and/or cats or inexperience dog handlers severely restrict our options of the greyhounds we could place with you.

If greyhound fostering is of interest to you, then please visit our fostering information page to see if it could be the route for you.

Lungworm can kill!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
