Bye Bye Daz, Hello Lila!

Yesterday the very lovely Daz went home to start his new life. We wish him a long and happy future with his new family.

Lila an affectionate and friendly girl who’s just turned 7 years old has joined us. She’s familiar with home life, but looking for a new home because of circumstances beyond her previous owners’ control. It’d be really nice if we could see this girl back enjoying home comforts soon. We’ll add a more detailed description about Lila as soon as we get to know her better.

Lila Greyhound black

Lila our latest arrival aged 7 years. She loves to receive cuddles.

Homed Greyhounds:

Daz, Dilly, Bolt and DJ are the lucky greyhounds to have found themselves adopted in April.

Recent arrivals and Improved Photographs:

Lila, Max, Isla, Faith, Danny, Minty and Rosa are all recent arrivals. New photos are on site for Teasel, Blue, Willie, Robbie and Sonny. Pictures and information on all our home seeking greyhounds can be found in our Greyhounds for Adoption Gallery.

Blue the blue greyhound

Blue still needs an adoptive home.

Wow, generosity abounds this week!

With thanks to Penny and Adrian who have just handed over another £300 to support the greyhounds in our care. They’ve raised the funds through a combination of car boot sales and the sale of their home made jams, pickles and cakes. Well done Penny and Adrian and thank you for your continued support.

Thank you too to Pete Burton for his generous gift of £100 completely out of the blue!

Thank you to B & Q, Hedge End, Southampton for their donation of 4 trays of assorted hanging basket plants.

We would like to thank Homebase in Hedge End, Southampton for their lovely donation of 5 trays of bedding plants.

With thanks also to Pets at Home for another donation of damaged dog food/items which we received by registering for the Pets at Home Support Adoption Scheme. We have heaps of dog food now for all the kennel hounds to enjoy over the coming weeks.

Donated food received

The Pets at Home Support Adoption Scheme has really helped to dramatically reduce our feed bills. Periodically we get a call to go and collect a whole pallet load of damaged dog food (sometimes with other dog related items too) from our local store and we’ve had a massive amount donated just recently. Wonderful news for our ever hungry kennel residents.

So thank you to Penny and Adrian, Pete Burton, B & Q, Homebase and Pets at Home!

Greyhound Events:

Sunday 2nd June is our Kennel Open Day from 11am until 2pm. Come and join the fun at our biggest fundraising event of the year. Entry to the event is free of charge, but a donation of canned fish (sardines, pilchards, tuna, mackerel etc) in spring water, oil or tomato sauce would be most welcome. Absolutely NO fish in brine please because salt is toxic to dogs.

Last year’s canned fish collection was amazingly successful and we are just using up the last of the tinned fish now almost a year later! We do not need any dog treats either this year thank you as we are extremely well stocked with those still after our very successful Christmas appeal. Thank you to everyone who has done and will be donating food items for the kennel greyhounds to enjoy. Our residents eat extremely well and it keeps our funds for more important things like vet bills. More detailed information of attractions and events to follow nearer the time.

Saturday 15th June will find our fundraising stall at the North Camp Summer Fayre.

Foster Homes for Greyhounds Needed:

Jet black male bed

How can you resist the lovely Jet? They don’t come much more chilled out than this boy when it comes to snooze time. Please consider adopting Jet, he’s waited far too long.

We desperately need more foster homes in case of need for greyhounds that may be older, not suited to kennel life or ones that simply need some “real world” experience to bring out the best in them. If you think you might be suited as a foster carer then please read our fostering information page and then contact us if you wish to go forward.

Sponsored Slim:

Fiona, one of our supporters, needs some sponsorship to help motivate her weight loss plan. If you think you might be able to sponsor her then please contact us and we’ll complete your details on a sponsor form for you.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
