Come and Meet our Greyhounds

Greyhound Lifeline invite you to join us at our annual Kennel Open Day on Sunday, 20th May between 11am and 2pm. We have lots of interesting and fun things for you to enjoy and we would really appreciate your support for this, our biggest fundraising event of the year.

Important parking information for Sunday 20th May ONLY:

Visitor parking will be available in the grounds of St Nicholas’ School, Redfields House, Redfields Lane, Church Crookham, Fleet GU52 0RF. A short walk from the school (maximum 10 minutes at an easy pace) will bring you to our kennel yard.

Parking for disabled visitors will be available at the kennels. If you are disabled and need driving directions to the kennels please contact us.

We are extremely grateful to St Nicholas’ School for their generosity and assistance. Please help us to maintain our good neighbour reputation by ensuring any dog mess your dog deposits is promptly bagged and disposed of in the dog waste bin near the school exit. Please also note that the school has stipulated that there is strictly no parking on grass areas either inside our outside their premises. There is plenty of hard surface car parking available.

Open Day Attractions will Include:

  • Fun competitions with rosettes for places 1-6. The very popular Bonio and Spoon Race (with dog) being one of the competitions.
  • A vet and veterinary nurse from Cedar Vets in Alton have kindly volunteered to give a short talk/demonstration about canine health issues and show us how to bandage (dogs) successfully.
  • A raffle, tombola, refreshments, merchandise stall, plants, home made greeting cards and a sweet stall are also being run for your enjoyment. There may be more attraction yet as people have been very generous and are still coming forward with ideas.
  • We hope to have some Therapy Dog greyhounds attending as well. Perhaps you may be interested in finding out more about what is involved and consequently discover how to use your dog to brighten the lives of the elderly and ill in our community.
  • Katherine Howie, a senior veterinary nurse at Vets Now , emergency vets will also be manning the information stall for Pet Blood Bank. Naturally she’ll also be happy to answer any general canine health care queries that you may have. Please talk to Katherine to find out how your dog could help save the lives of up to 16 other desperately ill dogs every year.

Entry and parking for Open Day is free of charge, but we would really appreciate donations of canned fish in oil, spring water or tomato sauce (no fish in brine please as salt is poisonous to dogs) or canned dog food.

Getting ready for the Homeless Hound Parade 2011

Please can we ask people not to bring dog treats for this event as we are still working our way through the veritable mountain of them collected during our Christmas appeal! Your generosity then absolutely astounded us and we are still grateful, but this time tinned fish and dog food would be much more useful as the greyhounds do love their sardines, tuna and pilchards!

New Arrival:

Tilly, a lovely young girl joined us today.

Homed greyhounds:

Bizzle has been homed.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Harry and Lulu are reserved.

Looking to adopt a greyhound?

Please visit our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery to see details of all our available greyhounds. (Please note that there are 3 pages to this gallery, so if you don’t find your perfect greyhound for you on page 1, please keep looking as he/she may be on page 2 or 3).

We Still Need Foster Homes – Can you help?

If you think you might be able to foster a greyhound then please read our Greyhound Fostering Information page.

Cat Test Passes:

Lulu, Abbie and Champ have all passed cat tests and with caution in the early days they would be able to learn to live safely with cats.

Foster Dog Updates:

Tara has turned into a real lady in a home environment. She’s living in a busy home with other dogs/bitches (including a small terrier). Clean, quiet, able to be left and sociable with children and other dogs. Why she is still waiting for her home, we don’t actually know.

Abbie remains the perfect foster dog. We don’t understand why this gentle and perfectly behaved girl has not been snapped up already. Abbie has passed our cat test.

Dan has recently moved into foster care and he too has turned into a smashing pet. Please give Dan a chance and ask to meet him. He’s one of those dogs who is a bit reticent until he knows you, but the lad has oodles of love and loyalty to give. Think what you could discover about him if you were to give him a chance to know you. Just look at Dan below, what a relaxed boy he is.
