Our Kennel Open Day was a Success!

Wow, what a wonderfully successful event this year’s Kennel Open Day was!

A huge thank you to all of our team for working really hard to get everything organised and ready in time for the big day. Our stall holders absolutely excelled themselves and they played a very large part in making this year’s Open Day the most successful one we’ve had to date.

The sun shone, no crises occurred, everyone seemed to have had a good time and we raised far more money to support our greyhounds than we ever thought possible. All in all a brilliant day, but one that we know would not have worked nearly so well without all the lovely people that came along to join us. Thank you everyone!

We are extremely pleased to announce that we managed to raise £2642.57 to help support the greyhounds in our care! (This figure is actually £226.50 more than we announced on our Facebook page previously as some takings that were still to come in at that point were temporarily overlooked.)

We added a particularly unusual event to the itinerary this year in the form of a Canine Commitment Ceremony (a doggy wedding of sorts). It was an idea dreamed up by our Jane and it was so unusual that we really didn’t know how it would be taken by our visitors. It seems however, that the whole thing was very well received and taken in good spirit by all attendees. If you would like to see Dodger and Ivy’s “wedding” on video then you’ll need to visit YouTube.

Photos from the day are still being received and we’ll upload as many as possible to this web site as soon as we can.

We would like to thank the following people in addition to all our fantastic volunteers and visitors:

Thank you to Lynn Byfield, Hart District Council‘s dog warden for attending. Lynn offered a popular free micro chipping service, she ran a fundraising competition and she very kindly gave a talk about dogs and the law. Lynn was helped on the day by her assistant Jasmine.

Marina and Chris from K9 Matters also deserve our thanks. Not only are they helping us regularly with any problem dogs we have, but they also kindly donated their time on the day to help resolve any problems that our visitors may have had with their dogs. These two kind people also stayed behind after the event to help us dismantle all the gazebos and clear up generally! Thank you Chris and Marina for all your ongoing support.

Our lovely landlady Pat also deserves our thanks. Pat allowed the use of a large field so that our visitors could park on site and she also unexpectedly ended up being car park attendant for the early arrivals too! This was all on top of having already donated several plants and other items for us to sell. Pat has been amazingly supportive and tolerant of us over the years and we are extremely grateful to her for all her ongoing support.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
