Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Our kennel and foster greyhounds have asked us to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! With love and  licks from Ozzie, Jonnie, Ben, Basil, Sonny, Penfold, DJ, Josie, Georgie, Noo Noo, Jet, Niki, Dan, Blizten, Maddie, Robbie, Molly, Tilly, Toby, Rory, Ellie, Teasel, Blue, Bolt and Willie! Woof, Woof (which translates as thank you for all the support and care of us until we join those lucky hounds who have a home of their very own!).

Christmas spirit greyhound

The two legged greyhound fans (otherwise known as our staff) would also like to wish you all a Merry  Christmas and Happy New Year too.

Seasonal Dangers:

Please help to keep your dogs safe from harm this Christmas by NOT feeding them mince pies, Christmas pudding, stuffing or chocolates! All these items contain ingredients that are able to kill a dog!

Watch out for those Poinsettia plants too as they are poisonous to dogs as well! If your dog is a bit of a thief, please keep a closed door between the dog and your tree chocolates, boxed chocolates or your turkey carcass unless you are supervising closely. (Cooked bones tend to splinter and they may end up perforating your pet’s gut. )

Thank You all:

A huge thank you goes to each and every one of our supporters and volunteers. Without your help with kennel cleanouts, feeds, dog walking, fostering, vet trips, fundraising, coat making, washing, mending, donations, purchases of food/merchandise etc we wouldn’t have been able to do our job of homing greyhounds as well as we do.

Photo of Blue the greyhound-blue-male

Blue is still waiting for an adoptive home of his own. He’d love an experienced greyhound family, possibly with a bitch already in residence and no young children. If that sounds like you, then please consider our boy Blue for adoption.

What a Year!

It has been a difficult year indeed, but we are still here and we are currently caring for more greyhounds than ever before. Homing figures, despite a higher than average number of returns have remained good. (Detailed figures to follow in the New Year.)

Regular visitors among you may notice that there is a space or two in the actual kennels right now, this is deliberate on our part so that in the case of need we can offer sanctuary to any unexpected emergency arrivals that may need our help over this holiday period. Hopefully there won’t be any emergency arrivals of course.

We apologise to those of you who have dogs still waiting for places, please have patience and wait another few days. We will begin taking in your dogs again during January as existing homing enquiries move forward and hopefully become adoptions.

Thank you Pets at Home:

We recently collected our second full pallet of damaged dog food and other dog related items from Pets at Home, Farnham Courtesy of the Pets at Home Distribution centres. Pets at Home’s Support Adoption Scheme is in our opinion brilliant, it saves of a fortune in feed bills. The food itself is always of good quality, it;s just the packaging that has been damaged making the items unsaleable in Pets at Home stores.

Donated food received

Manuel the Deputy Manager of Pets at Home, Farnham hands Marie from Greyhound Lifeline the last of the pallet of donated dog food/goods. The people carrier behind is completely full with their donations!

Recently Homed Greyhounds:

Farrah and Ginny were adopted during December.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Maddie and Molly are reserved.

New arrivals:

In kennels Maddie, Robbie, Josie and Blitzen are our most recent arrivals. In foster homes Penfold (not on site yet), Tilly, Georgie and Jonnie are the most recent ones to be placed. Details of all the greyhounds we have available can be found in our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery.

New Greyhound Blog:

Jo has a new Greyhound Blog on site for you to enjoy.

Homes for the boys desperately needed:

If you are interested in adopting a greyhound please view our Boy or Girl page after which we hope you’ll consider one of our many boys alongside our just as lovely girls. We especially need homes for boy greyhounds, we simply have more of them in residence and more boys waiting than girls for places as well. Thankfully we are unusual in greyhound homing in that most of our kennels are single kennels and we can and always have taken more boys in for homing than girls.

Please help us to help some of those many boys still in need of places by adopting a boy wherever possible so a boy space can be freed up.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.

Updated greyhound Descriptions:

Maddie, Robbie, Willie, Sonny, Georgie, Jonnie and Blitzen have updated descriptions available in our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery.

Totally cute Dan
Dan is still looking for adoption folks – how can anyone resist this boy?

Thank You:

Thank you to everyone who has donated goodies for both dogs and staff recently. Obviously you intend for both dog and handler to fatten up and waddle sooner rather than later! Seriously mind, we are very grateful for all the gifts recieved, it is truly lovely to know how generous our supporters are.

Holiday Season Homing Dates:

Please note that in the best interest of our greyhounds and to prevent the “dog for Christmas” scenario Greyhound Lifeline will not allow any greyhound adoptions to families with children in residence from now until after Christmas. Normal homing will re-commence from New Years Day.

Please rest assured that we still welcome viewings and reservations as normal throughout the holiday period with a view to adoption dates being set for 1st January 2013 or shortly there after. Home checks and adoption enquiries will also continue as normal.

Christmas and New Year Kennel Opening Hours:

Our Christmas and New Year opening hours will be the same as for every other day of the year that is from11am until 1pm daily.

Volunteer dog walkers (adults) are welcome every day – please however try to arrive at 11am for walking since late arrivals may find that there are no dogs left to exercise!

Please also note that due to a change in the terms and conditions of our insurance we cannot accept any volunteers or visitors under the age of 16 years without a parent or guardian supervising them at all times. Children aged 16 and 17 years old may be accepted on site unaccompanied by prior agreement only and once a signed parental consent form has been received by us.

Christmas Appeal:

Our Christmas appeal for dog treats has been a resounding success. Thank you everyone who made a donation. We now have full to overflowing dog treat bins and this should see the greyhounds happy well into 2013!

We Need Foster Homes – Can you help?
