New Arrivals in and we are Full Again!

Last week we were pleased to welcome Teddy, Bella and Kai to Greyhound Lifeline. Teddy and Bella are relative youngsters having both been born in 2010 and Kai is a slightly older lad of 6 years.

New arrival Teddy

Homed Greyhounds:

Ash, Teasel, Manny, Danny and Joe have been homed.

We have most recently said our fond farewells to Ash, Teasel and Manny all of whom have been lucky enough to have found families of their own. We wish them all good luck and happiness in their respective homes.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Ebony and Faith are reserved.

Greyhounds in foster care:

Niki, Jet and Poppy (previously Isla) are all in foster care. If one of our foster dogs interests you as a potential new family member then you simply need to call us and we’ll arrange a mutually convenient date and time for you to meet up.

Jet black male bed

How can you resist the lovely Jet? They don’t come much more chilled out than this boy when it’s snooze time. Please consider adopting Jet, he’s waited far too long.

Jet has a new and updated description courtesy of his foster “mum”. Please take another look at Jet, is he the boy for you?

New Arrivals:

Teddy, Bella and Kai are our most recent arrivals.

Kai male white and fawn

Kai, our 6 year old new arrival. A lovely, gentle and all round well mannered boy, but he’s not available just yet as we’d like to see him gaining some  much needed weight first. On the plus side for Kai, our vet is happy that he is perfectly healthy. That and a good appetite should see Kai ready for adoption in just a week or two more.

Great British Greyhound Walk:

On Sunday 23rd June representatives of Greyhound Lifeline joined in with the Great British Greyhound Walk along with several previously homed hounds and some that we’d never met before too.

Hindhead Walk GBGW 2013

The post walk photo shoot.

Our thanks go to Angela who very kindly organised our event at the Devil’s Punchbowl in Hindhead, Surrey. We had a pleasing turn out for a 1st effort with 32 hounds joining us on the day.

The hounds came in a large size variations the smallest of whom was a tiny and very well mannered little Italian Greyhound who did manage to make all the Greyhounds present look rather huge by comparison! Poppy, Curly, Rory and Rosa were our home seeking hounds that joined in and we are pleased to say all behaved very well.

GBGW short walk Hindhead 2013

The hounds and people who opted for the shorter walk at the GBGW’s Hindhead venue.

Several hounds were extremely tired after their exertions it seems as we had many reports of dogs sleeping the afternoon away in contented exhaustion.

We were exceptionally fortunate with the weather which held until the actual walk had finished. There was a rather heavy downpour mind, but all the fun was pretty much over by then and slightly damp people and dogs made a dash for the comforts of their vehicles and then headed off home.

Food Voucher – any offers?

Bran the greyhound recently won a £50 voucher to spend at Vets Food World and he has very kindly donated that voucher to Greyhound Lifeline so that we can raise some funds by offering it to whoever makes us the best offer. Thank you Bran for your generosity.

Please visit the Vets Food World website and see if there’s a food there that you might like to have for your pets (food available for many animals, not just dogs). If you make us the best offer we will advise you the activation code and the food can be delivered to your door free of charge. Two restrictions apply: The voucher is for one use only and your order must exceed £50 to be able to use the voucher.

New Poems on site:

We are very pleased to have been able to add two poems written by Pam Lonnen to our web site. You can find Pam’s poems along with many by another author Tracy Errington in our Greyhound Poems section. Pam has very kindly given her permission for us to use them and we hope you’ll enjoy her light hearted look at life through Josie Greyhound’s eyes as much as we did.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
