New Beginnings for Greyhound Lifeline

This weekend Worzel, who has been with us for a whole year, was homed.  We are confident that Oscar (Worzel’s new name) will be very happy with his forever family.

Updates:

As you are all probably aware we must soon leave our current kennel site because the land owner is selling the farm.

Knowing this loss of the kennels is coming, we have been “homing down” for some time.  This is to reduce the number and urgency of greyhounds needing places at other Retired Greyhound Trust centres when that time comes.

We (that is Marie and Lucy whose current status within this branch of the Trust is that of joint-lead volunteers) have since made the decision to leave the Retired Greyhound Trust.

We are not however giving up the homing of greyhounds. We will continue running Greyhound Lifeline, but Greyhound Lifeline will become an independent homing group. On (or possibly before 20th February, if all RGT dogs have secured places elsewhere) Greyhound Lifeline will no longer have claim to charity status. We will from the date of separation no longer be associated with, or be any part of the Retired Greyhound Trust.

We understand work remains underway at the Retired Greyhound Trust to source a site for the replacement RGT Surrey and Hampshire Branch.

The newly independent Greyhound Lifeline, once separation has been finalised, will too be seeking a new site, in order to set up our own homing centre from. We will keep you updated on our progress in due course.

We have had as a branch of the Trust a hugely dedicated and hardworking team of volunteers and we hope to retain that team. We appreciate however that each volunteer is an individual and each individual has to make up their own mind about which group they choose to continue supporting.

The RGT have already written to the branch’s registered volunteers, so some of you reading this may already know part of this news.

Greyhound Lifeline will go through a time of uncertainty and challenge undoubtedly, but we have already been assured by some of our supporters.  Please bear with us during this transition phase. We will keep you all informed of progress online and most importantly we will let you know when the Trust’s remaining greyhounds have secured homing spaces at other locations. We will very much miss the RGT dogs that are currently in our care but we wish them success at finding an adoptive home through RGT homing branches.

Fundraising:

We will continue to require your donations of unwanted children’s toys, games (board, electronic and PlayStation/Xbox type), kitchen gadgets, utensils and crockery. Jigsaws, DVDs (not video tapes please), CD’s, ornaments and unopened/unwanted toiletries etc for fundraising purposes after 20th February when Greyhound Lifeline will become an independent non profit organisation. We hope you will continue to help us support greyhounds needing homes through fundraising sales as an independent, just as you have done whilst we were a branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust. After 20th February please contact us for information about where to drop off donated items.
