News From The Kennels

We still desperately need foster homes for our greyhounds. It’s still a case of “no room at the inn”. Please read our greyhound fostering page to find out more, perhaps you could foster a greyhound and give him/her a taster of what home life is all about?

Greyhounds make great PAT dogs:

If you think your dog could become a Pets as Therapy dog then please visit the Pets as Therapy web site for more information. It’s a very worthwhile charity that helps so many people feel just a little bit better.

Sponsored Event – 25th March 2012

Marie’s son Ed is running in the Fleet half Marathon on Sunday 25th March 2012 to raise funds for Greyhound Lifeline. Many people have already generously sponsored him and the funds raised will help toward the costs involved in keeping our home seeking greyhounds healthy, fed, housed and happy.

A sponsor form is at the kennels or if you cannot get to us, but still wish to sponsor Ed we will happily accept your pledge (by email or phone) and we’ll ask you to post a cheque to us after the event has been completed.

Thanks to everyone who has already offered sponsorship. Please rest assured that every penny raised goes directly toward supporting the dogs. No one at Greyhound Lifeline gets paid wages, we are 100% voluntarily staffed.

Homed Greyhounds:

Henry and Rose are the two lucky hounds to have gone home so far in March.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Bella, Archie and Ivy are reserved.

Updated Greyhound Descriptions:

Ernest, Courtney, Champ, Susie, Turbo, Bella, Harry, Bizzle, Star and Rosie have updated descriptions available. Jack and Phoebe have recent updates too. For up to date information about all our available greyhounds please visit our Greyhounds for Adoption Gallery.

Cat Test Passes:

Susie has now joined Bizzle, Abbie, Ernest, Champ, Alfie, Bella, Phoebe, Jack and Harry. All the above named greyhounds have passed cat tests and with caution in the early days they would be able to learn to live safely with cats. Phoebe is actually cat safe rather than a simple cat test pass.

Greyhounds can indeed live with cats. Not all of them by any means, but please help to spread the word that it can be done and that we have suitable prospects waiting for a home offer.

Foster Dog Updates:

Jack is a new dog! What a superstar he is to have achieved so much in so little time. Those of us that know Jack are still in shock (of the very pleasant kind) at his remarkable progress. With thanks to Glenn, Anna and Sarah of Dog House Training for all their hard work. Most especially thank you to Sarah for agreeing to keep Jack with her as a foster dog for as long as it takes to find him an adoptive home. Jack lives with a cat!

Tara is another longer stay greyhound who has very pleasantly surprised us. Since going into foster care she has turned into a real lady and her description has changed to reflect her wonderful changes too.

Ernest (also known as Ollie) is thriving in foster care. He’s a good boy all round and totally relaxed too now he has left the kennel environment. Ernest has passed our cat test.

Abbie remains the perfect foster dog. We don’t understand why this gentle and perfectly behaved girl has not been snapped up already. Abbie has passed our cat test.

Phoebe is doing well in her foster home. She’s a very different girl to the one that first arrived. Again we need to thank Dog House Training for their help settling Phoebe down and thank Angela for her first venture into fostering. Phoebe lives with a cat.

Archie, another older lad of almost 11years has also been reserved by his foster carer. It’s just wonderful to know that these older greyhounds don’t have to move on again and that they will thoroughly enjoy the rest of their lives.

New On Site

Paul has a new Greyhound Blog entry.

More beautiful greyhound poems (written by Tracy Errington) are now ready for you to read.

Imi is the most recent addition to our kennel. She’s a lovely, waggy tailed little lady with a gentle nature. A photo of Imi will follow as soon as possible.

Could You be a Greyhound Blog Author?

New site content is needed in the form of our Greyhound Blogs. Please contact us if you would like to write a greyhound blog and have it appear on our web site.

Our archive greyhound blogs are still able to be seen, but some new content from existing authors or some new authors altogether would be very welcome.

Annual Kennel Open Day

We have set the date for our 2012 Kennel Open Day. It’s going to be on Sunday May 20th from 11am through to 2pm. We’ll have lots of stalls and fun events, plus a parade of our “stars of the show”, those greyhounds still waiting for adoption.

Entry and parking will be free, although a donation of canned dog food or fish (tuna, sardines, pilchards etc) in oil, spring water or tomato sauce would be most welcome. Absolutely no fish in brine though please as salt is poisonous to dogs!

More information about events and stalls will be published nearer the day.

Fundraise for us using eBay

You can now sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. For ebay members only please visit their Sell for Charity page and enter “Greyhound Lifeline” in the Charity name area.

If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time?

  1. Hello everyone at Lifeline………Remember me…I’m Parker ! [sometimes called Paddy Parker!]
A huge thanks for looking after me until Rosemary turned up,and a special thanks to Carol who made sure that I got noticed that day!
I can’t tell you just how amazing it is being a ‘Pet Dog’….I am being spoilt rotten and I don’t ned to bark so much anymore.
I,m still learning that there are a number of funny looking individuals out here all of whom think that they are Dogs! Well you have to humour them I
suppose. But here’s a tip when your turn comes to meet ’em. If you get close enough to sniff ,then close your eyes and you could imagine they look like us.
But for now…. decisions, decisions, Sofa or Arm Chair.!

    • Hi Rosemary and Parker of course,

Glad all is going well. As you say the important decisions are very much “sofa or arm chair?”. Love from all at Greyhound Lifeline. xx

We would love to hear from you, please leave a comment or if you have any questions please enter them into the comments section.
