November Updates

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

AS OF THIS AFTERNOON (17/11/15) WE ARE CLOSED TO ALL VISITORS AND DOG WALKERS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

THIS IS A NECESSARY COURSE OF ACTION, BEING TAKEN IN THE RESPONSE TO VETERINARY ADVICE AND FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING.

ONE OF OUR KENNEL RESIDENTS HAS THIS AFTERNOON BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CAMPYLOBACTER (A DISEASE WHICH IS TRANSMISSIBLE TO HUMANS).

The dog involved is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery within a few days, but we still have to wait to see if any other residents contract the condition.

Two different kennel residents have contracted kennel cough so this adds another complication.

We hope to be able to welcome you again in approximately 2 weeks time.

Food and merchandise purchases can still be made, but everyone must remain outside of the kennel yard and let our kennel volunteers bring items you require to you.

We regret any inconvenience caused. Our greyhounds will miss you, but in the mean time we will continue to care for them.

Thank you for your co-operation. Marie and Lucy.

Christmas Appeal:

Are you able to buy a small extra present this Christmas? If you are then our kennel residents would love to receive some Butcher tinned meat or Chappie tins.  We get through a large amount of tinned dog food each year and the greyhounds really do love it on top of their dinners!  They love Butcher tins especially the tripe flavour, we use the Chappie for our unwell dogs.  The dogs would be really thankful for your kind donations.

Christmas and New Year Kennel Opening Hours:

Our Christmas and New Year opening hours will be the same as for every other day of the year that is from 11am until 1pm daily.  We would love to see you especially during this period to help us walk the greyhounds who will still be having their daily walks.

Christmas Homing Dates:

Please note that the last adoption day prior to Christmas will be Saturday 5th December 2015. Normal homing’s will re-start on 1st January 2016.

Only in exceptional cases and in homes where there are no children resident will we consider relaxing this policy. The forthcoming holiday period can be a very stressful time for people and as such it is not generally a good time to bring a new dog into the home.

This decision has been made with the welfare of our greyhounds at the forefront of our minds. We hope that you understand our decision.

Viewings for greyhounds and potentially reservations will still be ongoing throughout the holiday period, so please continue to check for updates on our website.

2015 Christmas Cards:

We now have in stock the 2015 Retired Greyhound Trusts Christmas cards, there are four designs and twelve cards in a pack.  Each pack costs £4.  If you would like to purchase a pack or two, please come up to the kennels and buy them from us.

Bedding:

Thank you to everyone for their very generous donations of bedding, towels and blankets. We now have so much in stock that we have to ask you not to bring us any more until further notice. We simply do not have anywhere to store it all! This is a lovely position to be in and we expect it to be temporary, so if you have the storage space at home we’ll happily take the donations off you at a later date once we have used some of the existing bedding up.

Stock Appeal:

We are out and about at many local car boots and dog shows over this Autumn period.  We need your help! We are in need of stock suitable to sell at car boot fairs or at local fairs/events. The things we need the most are DVD’s, CD’s, children’s toys – including toy cars, jigsaws (adults and children’s), board games, console games and any boxed/unwrapped presents.

Used Postage Stamp and Ink Cartridge Appeal:

Many of you may already know that the Retired Greyhound Trust collect used postage stamps to raise funds for the greyhounds in their care. For some of you collecting the occasional stamp here and there and finally getting around to posting a collection off may be a bit of a nuisance. If you bring them along to Greyhound Lifeline we can send them off for you when we have collected a larger amount.  We also collect old mobile phones.

Fundraise for us using eBay:

You can sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. For ebay members only please visit their Sell for Charity page and enter “Greyhound Lifeline” in the Charity name area. If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time
