Open Day Coming Soon

A date for your diaries: On Sunday 20th May between 11am and 2pm we are hosting our Open Day at the kennels.

We’ll have a raffle, tombola, merchandise, plants and hand made cards for sale, home made cakes, jams and pickles, refreshments and a selection of other attractions too. Not forgetting of course a few fun competitions for your greyhounds to take part in. Our wonderful home seeking greyhounds will be out on parade too.

We hope you’ll be able to join us and enjoy a fun day out. This event is our biggest  fund raiser of the year and it goes a long way toward supporting the payment of our never ending veterinary and feed bills etc.

Free entry and parking, but we would really appreciate donations of canned fish in oil, spring water or tomato sauce (no fish in brine please as salt is poisonous to dogs) or canned dog food.

Preparing for the parade

Getting ready for the Homeless Hound Parade 2011

Please can we ask people not to bring dog treats for this event as we are still working our way through the veritable mountain of them collected during our Christmas appeal! Your generosity then absolutely astounded us and we are still grateful, but this time tinned fish and dog food would be much more useful and they greyhounds do love their sardines, tuna and pilchards!

New Arrival:

Lulu who was born in December 2008 is our latest arrival. She’s a tiny little girl with a lovely nature and she has passed our cat test with flying colours too.

Homed greyhounds:

Jack, Turbo, Alfie and Imi have been homed.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Bizzle is reserved.

Looking to adopt a greyhound?

Please visit our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery to see details of all our available greyhounds. (Please note that there are 3 pages to this gallery, so if you don’t find your perfect greyhound for you on page 1, please keep looking as he/she may be on page 2 or 3).

Donate a scarf to help a greyhound

Ladies everywhere are urged to clear out their wardrobes as the Retired Greyhound Trust is calling for donated ladies scarves of all types for an exclusive charity sale event at the Spirit of Summer Fair at London’s Olympia on 16th 17th May.

Peter Laurie, the Trust’s Chief Executive, explained:

“The Retired Greyhound Trust is dedicated to finding loving homes for greyhounds when their racing days are over.  Last year we found 4,120 homes for ex-racers thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers and the generosity of our supporters. We want to help even more dogs again this year, but we really need your help.

“The Spirit of Summer Fair is a really exciting opportunity for us and we are looking forward to working with The London Ladies Club to raise funds by offering a range of elegant and beautiful scarves for sale, including some unique vintage and collectible designs to suit all styles and budgets.”

One long-standing supporter of the Trust’s work is model, actress and singer Twiggy, who first got involved after helping find homes for brother and sister retired greyhounds Gracie and Joe.  During a recent photo shoot for her ‘Twiggy’ clothing line with M&S, she met Monty, a retired greyhound.

Twiggy said:

“This is such a great cause that is very important to me, which is why I have personally donated a scarf.  I encourage everyone to dig deep into their wardrobes, and their hearts, and send in any fine scarves they can spare to help the Retired Greyhound Trust raise funds to rehome these gorgeous dogs.”

To help support the Trust and donate a fine scarf, please send it by 14th May to: Scarf Appeal, Retired Greyhound Trust, Park House, 1-4 Park Terrace, Worcester Park KT4 7JZ.

New Greyhound Blog:

Jo has the latest entry in our Greyhound Blogs. Her Tracy the greyhound applies to become a therapy dog. Find out if she succeeds?

We Still Need Foster Homes – Can you help?

If you think you might be able to foster a greyhound then please read our Greyhound Fostering Information page.

Cat Test Passes:

Lulu, Abbie, Champ and Harry have all passed cat tests and with caution in the early days they would be able to learn to live safely with cats.

Foster Dog Updates:

Tara has turned into a real lady in a home environment. She’s living in a busy home with other dogs/bitches (including a small terrier). Clean, quiet, able to be left and sociable with children and other dogs. Why she is still waiting for her home, we don’t actually know.

Abbie remains the perfect foster dog. We don’t understand why this gentle and perfectly behaved girl has not been snapped up already. Abbie has passed our cat test.

Dan has recently moved into foster care and he too has turned into a smashing pet. Please give Dan a chance and ask to meet him. He’s one of those dogs who is a bit reticent until he knows you, but the lad has oodles of love and loyalty to give. Think what you could discover about him if you were to give him a chance to know you. Just look at Dan below, what a relaxed boy he is.
