It’s Official, our Open Day was a great success.

We raised the wonderful sum of £2206.06 to support the greyhounds in our care. Visitors also very generously donated a small mountain of canned dog food and tinned fish so that our kennel residents can eat well for weeks to come.
Thank you to everyone who came along to support us and to all those folk who had made assorted donations before and during the event to enable various stalls to run smoothly.
The day generated several new homing enquiries. Tara and River have been homed and Jake is reserved as a result.
The weather held for us and we had an amazing turn out with reports from our wonderful team of car park attendants that we needed to open the overflow parking area as the main area was full!
We had several special visitors come and see us (all the dogs we have homed are included in the term “special” by the way), but 2 greyhounds stand out particularly and they are Jack and Choc. Both happily homed, special needs boys.
We would like to thank all the following people, companies and schools, without whose help and support we would not have been able to hold such a successful event:
- Caroline the vet and George the veterinary nurse from Cedar Vets in Alton for their interesting talk and demonstration.
- We are extremely grateful to St Nicholas’ School, Fleet for allowing us the use of their car park which we understand was used to its capacity!
- Greyhound Bus for several years of supporting us with raffle prizes and goodies for us to sell.
- Rod from Alton Plumbing and Heating for getting our electricity supply up and running again after we blew fuses with all the kettles for refreshments!
- Year 10 girls from Farnborough Hill School in Farnborough for their generous donation of canned dog food and tins to enable the running of their tin tombola stall. Charley Woods was the young lady from Farnborough Hill who decided to get the whole thing up and running.
- Penny and Adrian for once again “working their socks off” baking, jam making and everything else they do to run their tombola, and home made produce stall.
- The Sweet Shop, Hart Centre, Fleet for donating 100% of the Sweet Shop stall sales to us and providing the stock to sell too! Well done Emily H for running the stall for the second year running.
- The following companies all provided at least one brand new gazebo for us to use on the day and in the future too and we thank them for it: T C Jones Groundworks in Fareham, CBL Southampton, Selwood Pump Hire in Bristol, Bristol and Avon Haulage and Plant Force in Bristol.
- We want to thank our car park attendants: Cathy, Nick, Nigel, Paul K, Sarah-Jane and Mark who kindly gave of their time, whilst away from all the activities to supervise the car park, collect canned food donations and make sure all was left as the school would want it to be.
- Thank you to all our stall holders: Carol, Lynn, Lucy, Emily R, Sian, Emily H, Saara, Joy, Tracy, Mo, Sally, Anne, Penny and Adrian.
- Special thanks go to Mo, Lucy, Sian, Paul G & Jane G for being early birds on site to help put up several gazebos.
- Thanks to Nick for setting up the P.A. system and for acting as event photographer too, along with doing a shift in the car park. Lots of photos coming soon folks!
- Thank you Paul K for managing the whole morning kennel shift on your own and keeping calm in the face of such disruption to the normal routine.
- Thank you to everyone who attended. Your generosity, as ever, astounded us. We have a lovely mountain of canned dog food and fish now and we’ve had no complaints about left dog mess anywhere which is brilliant. Well done everyone!
- Thank you too to the lovely lady from Riding for the Disabled (sorry, we don’t know your name) who had grown several plants to sell at their own Open Day which had to be canceled. At 30 minutes notice she set up a stall with us and donated 50% of her take to us retaining the other 50% for Riding for the Disabled.
- Thank you too to the families who brought their Therapy dogs along with them. We hope you managed to interest a few more people into putting their dogs forward as greyhound therapy dogs.
- We hope we have remembered to thank everyone because everyone who was involved or attended was a credit to Greyhound Lifeline and most importantly to the greyhounds themselves.

Cloud (a black bitch) and Noo Noo (a black dog) arrived on Tuesday. Both lovely greyhounds.
Homed greyhounds:
River, Tara, Harry and Champ have been homed.
Reserved Greyhounds:
Zulu, Cody, Jake, Abbie and Lulu are reserved.
Fundraising Tombola
Our fundraising Tombola stall complete with goodies to buy and information about greyhounds will be at the Fleet and District Carnival, Calthorpre Park, Fleet on Bank Holiday Monday the 4th June. Please come along and support us.
Next Canine Blood Donor Day – Sunday June 10th
Our next quarterly Pet Blood Bank blood collection sessio0n is booked for Sunday 10th June. Please call Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232 222 to book an appointment for your dog and save the lives of up to four other dogs! Acceptance criteria apply please read our Canine Blood Donor page for more information.

A New Appeal:
We need more empty jam jars with lids please. Anyone that comes to the kennels occasionally, please ask your friends and neighbours to collect them too. We are very low on 1lb jars especially which means that Penny and Adrian won’t be able to make much more home made jams or pickles for us to sell until we get more jars for them to use.
We are also in desperate need of small items suitable as tombola prizes. Unwanted stationery, smellies, small toys etc all make good tombola prizes. No food products please.
Please also keep up the donations of all sorts of good quality, unwanted items. We can use all sorts of things in one way or another, big or small. Items may be used as raffle prizes, tombola prizes, get sold on bric a brac stalls or even get put on ebay to raise funds.

Cat Test Passes:
Bizzle, Tilly and Abbie have all passed cat tests and with caution in the early days they would be able to learn to live safely with cats.
Foster Dog Updates:
Tara has been homed! Well done Tara. Your ex-foster mum misses you dreadfully, but your new family already adore you.
Abbie remains the perfect foster dog. We don’t understand why this gentle and perfectly behaved girl has not been snapped up already. Abbie has passed our cat test.
Dan has recently moved into foster care and he too has turned into a smashing pet. Please give Dan a chance and ask to meet him. He’s one of those dogs who is a bit reticent until he knows you, but the lad has oodles of love and loyalty to give. Think what you could discover about him if you were to give him a chance to know you. Just look at Dan below, what a relaxed boy he is.
Sponsored Slim:
Fiona Selby is aiming to lose 2 stone in weight and has offered to raise sponsorship for Greyhound Lifeline through her efforts. Her local Weigh Watchers group in Northamptonshire will verify whether or not she succeeds and/or how much she manages to lose.

Luxury thick tartan, hooded fleeces are now stocked and available at £22 each and fancy house collars are another recent addition to our merchandise. Wide collars are available at £13 each and the standard width house collars are just £6 each. Please check out our Greyhound Merchandise Page to see other items we stock. Sorry, but we cannot do mail order, items are to be purchased in person only.

You can now sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account.
