How can you resist the lovely Jet? They don’t come much more chilled out than this boy when it’s snooze time. Please consider adopting Jet, he’s waited far too long.

New Arrivals:

Curly, Ebony, Manny and Tilly are our most recent arrivals. Manny and Ebony have passed our cat test. With caution and vigilance we feel that both will be able to learn to live safely with cats.

Rainbow Bridge:

It’s been a particularly tough few weeks with very sad news coming through all too frequently. Several lovely greyhounds, for a huge variety of different reasons have left this world and moved on to Rainbow Bridge. Our thoughts and sympathies are with all those who have lost a beloved pet. Those greyhounds no longer with us will be remain in the hearts of their respective families forever. We pay tribute to their memories as well in our In Memory gallery.

Why do we love our greyhounds?

All the sad news over recent weeks triggered a request from us (via our Facebook page) for people to tell us some cheery, amusing anecdotes. We needed some happy tales to remind us how much joy and laughter a greyhound pet can give you.

We received some lovely, heart warming and funny anecdotes. The following are a few selected extracts which we hope you will enjoy reading as much as we did:

Alexis wrote: “DJ gets over excited when you walk in and he nibbles your bum! He also pokes you with his foot when you open the door to tell you to hurry up!”

Jane wrote: “Jimi let’s me know when the doorbell or phone rings by singing (howling) very loudly!”

Colin wrote: “We were just leaving the house for our morning walk when Bryn, on his lead dived under the bush in the front garden and came out with a fox cub in his mouth. The cub could not have been any older than three weeks, Bryn had it very gently by the scruff of the neck just as its mother would, on telling him to leave Bryn dropped it. The cub ran off under the shrubs appearing to be unarmed. You can imagine the praise I gave him!

Paul wrote: “Ben likes to hold your hand when you first arrive home and he gives you such a lovely greeting. Dodger is completley the opposite, he just stays crashed out in his bed far too comfortable to get up to greet you.”

Angela wrote: “Farran once stuck his head in a garden hedge as we walked past a house and came out with a chicken in his mouth! Cue a Fawlty Towers like debacle with me, my daughter, Farran and the chicken all running around together!”

Anna-Lisa wrote: Shauna (greyhound) and Lottie (terrier) are both very happy together. Always playing, they are great company for each other.

Kevin wrote: “Noo Noo loves laying on the grass in the sun and he is totally immune to loud noises, lawnmowers, fireworks etc. He is definitely the most relaxed, laid-back animal (when not playing) I’ve ever seen. He is an absolute delight, even his habit of playfully stealing things to gain attention is endearing (although my slipper and iphone case will never recover).”

Gillian wrote: “Jack loves to greet you when you come in even if you have only been out for ten minutes, he has this thing where he chatters his teeth; it’s so funny. Polly is very scatty, when she’s in the garden she does leaps and bounds all over the place trying so desperately to get Jack involved. Once Indoors they both go mad, one spinning in one direction and the other in the opposite direction. They’re like a mirror image, apart from their colour. It’s very hard to put down all the lovely and wonderful antics they both get up to, all I can say is its an absolute joy having these two and I just would not want to be without them, they make us laugh every day!”

Kate wrote: “Marge rubs her neck against anyone wearing perfume or cologne until she has some on her too. She doesn’t give up until she’s smelling gorgeous as well!”

Tracy wrote: “Jimmy often slides right off our leather sofas when he is asleep and onto the floor where on arrival he puts up his head long enough to look as if to say “How did I get down here?” He then promptly falls back to sleep! He is very funny whenever he does this and it always makes us smile.”

Congratulations Bran!

The lovely Bran (previously known as Bizzle) has come out of retirement and gone back to work! His training, as a therapy dog, has been completed and Bran now brightens the lives of a care home’s residents on a regular basis. Well done Bran for landing such an important job. He’s one of several fantastic ambassadors for the greyhound breed who are all qualified therapy dogs.

New Photographs:

Bobby now has much more flattering photos on site and our Ellie does as well.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
