Spring Time at the Kennels?

Finally it seems there has been a little bit of sunshine, long may it last! This week we’ve actually briefly seen naked greyhounds rather than greyhounds bundled up like Eskimos fit for a trip to the Arctic in layers and layers of coats.

It makes such a lovely change to be able to see the greyhounds properly, to be able to groom them without fear of freezing them to death and it makes all of as and it seems the dogs too much happier as well.

Let’s all hope for the warmer temperatures to stay with us, at least for a little while.

Two residents find homes:

It’s been a week of changes at the kennels. Two of our recent arrivals have been successful at finding homes already. Dilly headed off to start her new life just today and Daz will be going home in a couple of weeks time too.

We did have a recent spell of being able to find homes for some of the longer stay hounds and hopefully that will carry on again soon. Jet, Blue and Willie have all been with us too long. Jet is pretty straightforward so hopefully he’ll be snapped up before too long. Blue and Willie both have special needs in some way and their choices of home will be a bit more limited than some of the other dogs. We are not giving up on them though, somewhere out there we’ll find the perfect home for them.

Homed Greyhounds:

Dilly, Bolt and DJ are the first of our residents to find themselves adopted in April.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Daz is reserved.

Recent arrivals, updated descriptions and new photographs:

Max, Isla, Faith, Danny, Minty and Rosa are all recent arrivals. New photos are on site for Blue, Willie, Robbie and Sonny. Updated descriptions have been done for Niki, Faith and Minty.

Blue the blue greyhound

Blue still needs an adoptive home.

Full details of all our available greyhounds can be found in our Greyhounds Needing Homes gallery.

Jet with just a few of his favorite toys!

Jet is currently in foster care in the Southampton area. He’d be ideal for someone wanting an active playmate. Our Jet is a character lad, full of love and fun. He just needs a home of his own with either someone around most of the day or he could be just as happy with a part time worker and a canine companion or two.

Some Dates for your Diaries:

Sunday 2nd June is our Kennel Open Day from 11am until 2pm. Come and join the fun at our biggest fundraising event of the year. Entry to the event is free of charge, but a donation of canned fish (sardines, pilchards, tuna, mackerel etc) in spring water, oil or tomato sauce would be most welcome. Absolutely NO fish in brine please because salt is toxic to dogs.

Last year’s canned fish collection was amazingly successful and we are just using up the last of the tinned fish now almost a year later! We do not need any dog treats either this year thank you as we are extremely well stocked with those still after our very successful Christmas appeal. Thank you to everyone who has done and will be donating food items for the kennel greyhounds to enjoy. Our residents eat extremely well and it keeps our funds for more important things like vet bills. More detailed information of attractions and events to follow nearer the time.

Saturday 15th June will find our fundraising stall at the North Camp Summer Fayre.

Sunday 16th June is the day of our next scheduled Pet Blood Bank session at the kennels. If you haven’t made your appointment to save up to four canine lives yet, then please call Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232222 and book your dog in to donate blood.

Please note that walks are still being added, so it is worth checking in a few days if you can;t find one near to you at present.

Foster Homes for Greyhounds Needed:

It’s is positively lovely when our foster carers fall in love with their foster dog and decide to adopt them. Great for the dog and family alike with no more changes required to their lives, but the unfortunate down side is that it means we most often lose a foster home from it.

Niki greyhound fawn female
Niki just one of our greyhounds in foster care who still needs an adoptive home to call her own.

We desperately need more foster homes in case of need for greyhounds that may be older, not suited to kennel life or ones that simply need some “real world” experience to bring out the best in them. If you think you might be suited as a foster carer then please read our fostering information page and then contact us if you wish to go forward.

Sponsored Slim:

Fiona, one of our supporters, needs some sponsorship to help motivate her weight loss plan. If you think you might be able to sponsor her then please contact us and we’ll complete your details on a sponsor form for you.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
