Welcome Max and Isla

Last week saw us welcome two new dogs.

Max is a particularly stunning red brindle boy. The intensity of his red colouring is very unusual and it certainly turns heads. Of course it also helps that Max has a lovely nature as well.

New arrival Max has an unusual red brindle coat. What a stunning looking chap he is!

Isla also arrived last week. She’s not quite what we were expecting in that it turns out she’s a lurcher and not a greyhound, but once with us we didn’t have the heart to refuse this little lady a place. Photographs and brief details about Max and Isla can be found along with information on all our other home seeking hounds can be found in our Greyhounds Needing Homes gallery.

Thank you to B & Q:

Thank you to B & Q, Hedge End, Southampton for their donation of 4 trays of assorted hanging basket plants.

Thank you to Homebase:

We would like to thank Homebase in Hedge End, Southampton for their lovely donation of 5 trays of bedding plants.

What are we needing plants for?

Are you wondering what we want with bedding plants when we home greyhounds? Our wonderful volunteer Mo will be bringing those bedding plants on and making up hanging baskets and planters for us to sell and raise funds with at our forthcoming Open Day on June 2nd.

So thank you to B & QHomebase and of course to our Mo for helping us raise funds to support the dogs in our care.

Thank you to Pets at Home:

With thanks to Pets at Home for another donation of damaged dog food/items which we received by registering for the Pets at Home Support Adoption Scheme. We have heaps of dog food now for all the kennel hounds to enjoy over the coming weeks.

Greyhound Events:

Sunday 2nd June is our Kennel Open Day from 11am until 2pm. Come and join the fun at our biggest fundraising event of the year. Entry to the event is free of charge, but a donation of canned fish (sardines, pilchards, tuna, mackerel etc) in spring water, oil or tomato sauce would be most welcome. Absolutely NO fish in brine please because salt is toxic to dogs.

Last year’s canned fish collection was amazingly successful and we are just using up the last of the tinned fish now almost a year later! We do not need any dog treats either this year thank you as we are extremely well stocked with those still after our very successful Christmas appeal. Thank you to everyone who has done and will be donating food items for the kennel greyhounds to enjoy. Our residents eat extremely well and it keeps our funds for more important things like vet bills. More detailed information of attractions and events to follow nearer the time.

Saturday 15th June will find our fundraising stall at the North Camp Summer Fayre.

Sunday 16th June is the day of our next scheduled Pet Blood Bank session at the kennels. If you haven’t made your appointment to save up to four canine lives yet, then please call Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232222 and book your dog in to donate blood.

Foster Homes for Greyhounds Needed:

Jet greyhound black

Jet enjoying life in foster care with just a few of his favorite toys! All he needs now is a permanent adoptive home. Can you offer Jet a home?

We desperately need more foster homes in case of need for greyhounds that may be older, not suited to kennel life or ones that simply need some “real world” experience to bring out the best in them. If you think you might be suited as a foster carer then please read our fostering information page and then contact us if you wish to go forward.

Sponsored Slim:

Fiona, one of our supporters, needs some sponsorship to help motivate her weight loss plan. If you think you might be able to sponsor her then please contact us and we’ll complete your details on a sponsor form for you.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.
