The Greyhound Lifeline Team (retired)

Meet the Current Greyhound Lifeline Team →

Caroline joined us in June 2015 and came straight in as a Sunday morning kennel hand. She then moved on to a role of evening feeder and then adapted her role again to include fundraising too.

Dudley the Cockerpoo has been one of our “stooge dogs” for many years, at least 6 anyhow. His role is to help us teach our resident greyhounds how to socialise nicely with unfamiliar shapes and sizes of dog. Dudley takes no nonsense from naughty greyhounds, he may be little, but if a greyhound is acting rudely he soon tells them!

Lottie the Jack Russel Terrier has been one of our “stooge dogs” for around 2 years. Her role is the same as Dudley’s and Chloe’s. She helps to teach our greyhounds how to behave nicely with unfamiliar shapes and sizes of dog. Lottie is not overly keen on all the walking up and down the yard, she is far happier searching for left over scraps of food, for a small treat she will do the catwalk bit for us however. Lottie is excellent at reading the greyhounds’ body language. If she’s un-threatened by them she’s happy to be close to them, if she is unconvinced that they are totally friendly she retreats back to “mum” Lisa and stands behind her. Good girl Lottie and a clever one too!

Sarah Jane and Mark joined us in September 2011. They worked a regular kennel shift each week. Both work full time in paid employment, but have since adopted a greyhound of their own after seeking doggy day care solutions for him. Mark was very brave and fundraised for us once by having a sponsored leg wax done during one of our Open Days!

The couple moved away during the year 2017 with their work and unfortunately were no longer able to keep up their regular shift.

Viv was with us for a few years and completed a variety of jobs for us. These jobs include relief kennel hand with the help of her husband Dave. Viv also helped with grooming, dog coat making, washing and repairs. She is the proud “mum” to Calli greyhound and she’s also helped out with emergency fostering when the need arose.

Viv is a frequent visitor to the centre and supports the work of Greyhound Lifeline through fundraising events.

Saara
Saara joined us in 2011 and during the six years that she supported our work she was a great asset to Greyhound Lifeline and of course to the greyhounds that we cared for.

Saara had many roles with us. Most notably she covered regular kennel day shifts, she set up her own fundraising bric a brac stall at country or village fetes, she was a valuable and experienced home checker too. Additionally Saara was also our Duke of Edinburgh Award and work experience co-ordinator.

Saara had owned greyhounds since 2001 and she was a regular foster carer for us which quite often resulted in her adopting a foster dog. Saara did not leave us of her own free will. She suffered a devastating illness through the latter part of 2016 and into 2017 and very sadly Saara passed away at home in March 2017.

Sam joined us as a dog walker initially in 2013, she then took on a regular weekly kennel shift.

Sam has two lurchers at home and is a qualified veterinary nurse. It’s jolly handy having her on our team as her veterinary training is a valuable asset.

Sam left us in May 2017 to concentrate on her career.

Lynn
Lynn A joined us as a dog walker in October 2008 then September 2009 she became a member of the kennel staff by doing a regular kennel shift.

Lynn has helped with the shopping and stall manning for our Open days. A soft of heart lady she thinks all the greyhounds are wonderful (and of course they are).

Lynn has many years of dog experience, she used to be involved in dog rescue whilst living abroad. She is also kept busy by raising her teenage daughters and looking after her own dogs one of which used to be a greyhound foster dog. Lynn has now joined Club FF too.

Lynn continues to support our work, but she no longer has a “hands on” role.

Jane has been with Greyhound Lifeline since March 2008. Jane was co-manager with Marie for around 2 years, but left the management role in August 2014 purely due to time pressure of her paid job making the management role at Lifeline impractical to fulfil.

Jane worked a regular Wednesday kennel shift.

Jane has raised her family and she now looks after her own dogs when not at work. Jane is now a proud grandmother to one grandson.

Jane has been a greyhound owner since 2008, but has had many years of sighthound and other breed experience prior to that.

Kaz joined us in summer 2015 after completing her college studies. She stayed for a year or so working a regular Thursday shift, but now she has a full time job in a grooming parlour so cannot continue her shifts with us.

Helen joined us as a dog walker back in 2008 when she and her husband would come along at the weekends. They fell for a brindle boy by the name of Del who they adopted in December 2008. Del passed away during 2016.

Over the years Helen and her husband covered casual shifts, and for a while Helen held a regular Saturday morning role. She left us in early 2017.

Geoff and Sue were one of our husband and wife teams and they had been with us from the beginning. They actually helped transport the dogs from our old premises to our current one on New Years Day 2008!

Geoff and Sue both helped out with home checks over the years. They did a regular evening kennel feed, but left us in 2016.

Sian

Sian joined us in 2011, around her paid work she was able to help at shows and events and she was another valuable all rounder who was an asset to the team.

Sal

Sal had been actively helping Mo in the Southampton area since Spring 2010.

Sal has generated considerable funds for us by selling her hand made cards and she’s an all round keen supporter of our work. Not being local to the kennels, so she is another member of our unpaid staff who “did her bit” from a distance.

Emily

Emily joined us in 2011 on a work experience placement from Merrist Wood College. She was a regular team member and a regular evening feeder on top of her newly found full-time job as a trainee veterinary nurse.

Emily left us to concentrate on her veterinary nursing career which we believe she has recently become fully qualified in.

MoMo adopted Paddee from us in 2009. Living in Southampton she was not able to help with day to day kennel shifts, but little stopped Mo from helping us.

Mo did home checks, collected donated items in her area and delivered it all to us when she could.

Mo left us to move to the Devon/Somerset borders, but she continues her support from afar.

KateKate joined us as a kennel hand in early 2011. She adopted Marge from us in 2008 as a companion to her existing dog.

In October 2011 Kate ran her first half marathon and all funds raised through sponsorship were donated to support our work.

Kate works full-time in paid employment and looks after her own two dogs as well.

Milly Kent
Milly joined us as kennel staff in early 2011. She was at university in Nottingham initially when she could be found during university holiday time working Sundays with her uncle, Paul. Milly has now graduated and is working full time in paid employment. Initially a greyhound novice, like her uncle, she learnt much in a short time and she proved to be of great help to us.
