After almost 9 years in our current location we have been given notice that we need to find a new site to continue our operation from because our current landlady is retiring and the farm will be sold. We are looking for a new site to lease (possibly buy) within 5 miles of Fleet, Hampshire. A location near Fleet is critical in order that we can fully utilise our existing, substantial volunteer base. Existing kennels on site would be a bonus as would other buildings (an unused barn, stable block, storage unit or warehouse for example) that could be converted into good quality kennels, but as a minimum requirement a simple field or plot the land with road access and mains water might suffice. Some of you may have noticed our recent media coverage to help find a new site on Eagle Radio and BBC Radio Surrey along with some coverage in local media publications as well. Whilst this has been a fantastic opportunity it has not yet resulted in a potential site.

Festive Season Homing Dates:

Due to the excitement of the upcoming seasonal festivities please note that the last homing date for any families with children will be Sunday 4th December 2016. Normal homing will resume on Sunday 1st January 2017. There may be an adoption or two, for exceptionally quiet homes without children, but each case will be judged purely with the best interest of the dog at the forefront of our minds. Viewings and reservations will still continue through this busy time of year.

Veterinary Updates:

We hope that Izzy will finally be made available for adoption at end of November when her final post-operative veterinary check up will be completed. Little Izzy arrived with a chronic leg infection, a suspicious mass and limited mobility on her front left foreleg. After months of vet visits, tests and x-rays we discussed her long term well being with our vet and we jointly agreed that the way forward to ensure Izzy a pain free future was to amputate the leg. Izzy had this surgery done and after an initially challenging recovery she is now regaining her strength. Izzy is at last a happy, comfortable and tail waggy little girl who we hope will shortly be snapped up for adoption.

Katie has recently developed a non curable, chronic heart condition which although still under review will mean a shortened lifespan for her. Due to Katie’s uncertain future she is now enjoying whatever time she has left in a foster home rather than kennels.

We are pleased to say that Katie is totally oblivious to her condition and for now she is not suffering any debilitating symptoms. Long may that last! Katie enjoys her new life to the full and is very happy living in the midst of a busy household. No longer do we see the “Stressy Bessie”, “Zeberdee” dog of the kennels always wanting to see what she couldn’t. Katie is already at the centre of her little universe and sees everything that goes on. Reggie has recently been back to the specialist eye vet and although his cataract is developing further he still has reasonable vision. His pannus remains stable and his medication remains the same. This is good news for Reggie especially as now winter is here his sensitivity to light won’t be so dramatic and he can enjoy life outdoors much more.

Leroy and Izzy are all reserved.

New Arrivals:

Ellie, aged 11 years joined us today. Ellie’s previous owner had to go into a nursing home hence Ellie is looking for a new adoptive home. She has gone into foster care because kennel life for an older lady who has been in a home for many years would prove very stressful. Photos and information about Ellie will follow soon.

Melody has also joined us, she has bundles of energy to keep any family on their toes!

Fundraising:

Our stocks are starting to run low that we can sell to raise money to support the greyhounds in our care. Our wish list of goodies to sell include. Children’s toys, games (board, electronic and PlayStation/Xbox type), kitchen gadgets, utensils and crockery. Jigsaws, DVDs (not video tapes please), CD’s, ornaments and unopened/unwanted toiletries etc. Thank you for your continued support.

Used Postage Stamp and Ink Cartridge Appeal:

Many of you may already know that the Retired Greyhound Trust collect used postage stamps to raise funds for the greyhounds in their care. For some of you collecting the occasional stamp here and there and finally getting around to posting a collection off may be a bit of a nuisance. If you bring them along to Greyhound Lifeline we can send them off for you when we have collected a larger amount. We also collect old mobile phones.
