Our Poorly Pooches

Updates:

March has been a very difficult month on the greyhound front, we were devastated last week by the loss of our lovely boy Tazer and now we are struggling through a variety of health problems that some of our other greyhounds are suffering from.

Jessie, aged 13 had a very major dental on Thursday with multiple extractions, she required an overnight vet stay and only went back to her foster home on Friday evening. Jessie is very swollen and tender around her mouth, but her foster family (who will become her adoptive family) are giving her lots of TLC along with her medication. We wish Jessie a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her happy and eating without the pain she has had to manage for so long.

Cheetah, who has been with us since 7th March (not yet available for adoption) and who showed mobility and pain issues soon after arrival has been under veterinary care. He is in foster care where the warmth of the home is helping his comfort levels.

Cheetah will be heading off to an orthopaedic vet for major surgery involving metal plates and a bone graft soon. This complicated procedure will mean an intensive and long recovery period for this lad. His very painful and poorly healed broken hock should, if all goes well, be able to be walked on again without the need for the strong pain relief that Cheetah is currently receiving.

Billy, an 11 year old male arrived Thursday. Being an elderly chap we have placed him into foster care where he has settled very well. He has seen the vet, had blood tests done and been deemed fit for a dental. This is a relief as Billy needs extensive extractions and it is an urgent requirement, booked for Monday, due to the pain and infection he is currently suffering from. He has already started medication to help with this.

Yesterday evening Meerkat, who was spayed a few days ago was found to have opened up her spay wound. A late evening vet visit later she was stabilised having been surgically glued, put on pain relief and antibiotics and sent into foster care for the evening.

Unfortunately today’s follow up appointment with Meerkat however has resulted in her being admitted to the emergency vets for the weekend at least. In herself Meerkat is still bright, but her wound is deeply infected, too much so for surgery at this stage. We’ll keep you informed of her progress in due course.

We hope that you will offer your moral support to our volunteers, many of whom are still feeling the loss of dear Tazer. If you are able to offer a possible foster home (as a back up for the next potential crisis) then that would be amazing and most welcomed (please bear with us if we are slow to respond, we will come back to you, but medical needs are taking up significant time and remain our priority just now).

This month’s veterinary costs are going to be astronomical. If you are able to offer us a little financial assistance then please click the “Donate” button above. Any contribution no matter how small will help fund these necessary treatments.

Kennels Open Day:

This years Open Day will be on Sunday 22nd May 11-2pm.  Please mark on your calendar and lets make it another huge success.  More information about the day will be made available nearer the time.

A plea from one of the stall holders – anyone who has any spare pots or tubs would you be so kind to donate them to the kennels?  Please deliver to the kennels so we can pass them on to the family who are busy planting ready for the big day! Thank you.

Thank you:

A warm thank you to Farnham Park Golf Course Café for the latest collection raised through their collection tin.  We are very grateful to everybody that collects for the greyhounds in our care.  All money raised goes towards paying our veterinary costs, food, new coats and day to day care for our greyhounds.

Available Greyhounds:

Please take a look at all the lovely greyhounds, most have updated descriptions, in our greyhounds for adoption gallery.  We have some very friendly, loving greyhounds who have waited far too long for their forever homes.  Could you give one of our hounds their dream home?

We still have, many long stayer greyhounds that joined us early 2015 or before this and are still looking for that special home.  These dogs are Hammy, Willie, Jake, Suzi, Susie and Lyric.  Please take a look at these greyhounds and hopefully 2016 will bring them homes of their own.

Bric a Brac fundraising:

We are in need of good quality bric a brac: china and glass items, new toiletries and jewellery that can be sold at local small fairs.  If you can help please phone Saara on 07974816401 to arrange a drop off.  Thank you for your support in raising funds for the greyhounds in our care.

Used Postage Stamp and Ink Cartridge Appeal:

Many of you may already know that the Retired Greyhound Trust collect used postage stamps to raise funds for the greyhounds in their care. For some of you collecting the occasional stamp here and there and finally getting around to posting a collection off may be a bit of a nuisance. If you bring them along to Greyhound Lifeline we can send them off for you when we have collected a larger amount.  We also collect old mobile phones. As our research shows, the most common causes of male failures in bed are weak erections and accelerated ejaculation. At the same time, they can paralyse intimate life and become an obstacle to personal relationships. Levitra prolongators are able to eliminate both problems for 10-12 hours, so that you can fully enjoy intimate fun with your partner.

Fundraise for us using eBay:

You can sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. For ebay members only please visit their Sell for Charity page and enter “Greyhound Lifeline” in the Charity name area. If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time.
