Lady's Greyhound Blog - Part 7

Sunday 9th January 2011. Week 4.

Dear Greyhound Lifeline

Monday 3rd

A month has soon gone! I had a couple of runs with other dogs today, but I’m still a bit nervous of some of them, John had to fetch me when I ran towards home but was stopped by the gate of Tom’s Down

Tuesday 4th

When Joan and I got back home, John had the breakfast ready, he took my coat off while Joan fed the waiting birds. I grabbed my coat and dragged it to my bed but before I could chew it he took it from me in a most unsportsman-like way. I have to tolerate these unfriendly actions from time to time.

There was a noticeable absence of dogs on Tom’s Down, the holiday was over. It was wonderful I had the whole area to myself, except for John, he just plodded on in his own way. I kept a check on him just to make sure he was OK and going the right way.

We went out in the car today to another Inn where they had their lunch, I lay down on my pub mat and dozed a bit. The floor was warmer because it was wood. I saw peoples looks of admiration for me (or was it just amazement) when we left, they had arrived after us and had no idea that there was a dog present.

Wednesday 5th

Oh dear, another stressful morning, the old folk decided to put away all signs of Christmas, John put the tree decorations on the windowsill I tried to help by pinching the angel from the top of the tree but she tried to hold on and she pulled the other things onto the floor, making a noise which frightened me a bit. Then we took the outside lights down, I ran rings around John as I used the opportunity to grab some bird’s bread. The seagulls were late coming for it, the smaller birds are slower at eating it and so I helped a bit. I made friends with the fellow next door, he was taking his lights down too, he saw me without my coat for the first time.

Some of the family came for lunch, they were amazed with the welcome I gave them today, a big difference from before Christmas when I was just brought here. I dog-walker said today that I was now a lovely confident dog, much different to a month ago.

Thursday 6th

What a terrible thing. It happened to me today. John took me out for a wee in the back garden, our front and back doors are at the side of the house, he opened the door for me to go inside, while he went to close the front gates but he didn’t notice that I didn’t go in but went exploring, I walked around the other side of the car and onto  the front lawn. Then I heard the door close. I didn’t like that. What was I to do?

I waited and waited and waited, it was drizzling. After some time I clawed the door, then after a bit I cried. Fortunately Joan was in the kitchen and heard me, she let me in and dried me. She thought I was with him!  He thought I was with her!  They both assured me that it wouldn’t happen again – I hope not. They were delighted that I had waited to be let into my house and had not gone exploring.
