Ozzie Has Been Homed

Ozzie has been homed.

He is a short and stocky, good natured, lively and friendly black and white, castrated male who was born in August 2007.

Ozzie can walk nicely on the lead, but his enthusiasm tends to get the better of him initially. He usually leaves our yard for a walk bouncing around like a kangaroo on just two legs! He loves life and everything in life is a total joy to him, he just can’t investigate it all quick enough, hence his excitable exits.

A very playful and fun boy who would love an active home with perhaps older children to play with. A bit of a “tank” in play, charging around with abandon, hence caution being needed around young children simply because he’ll likely bowl them over with his enthusiasm to say hello. A cuddly, affectionate and full of character lad who is guaranteed to keep you amused.

With actual toys Ozzie can take them or leave them. He’s not especially interested even in squeaky ones. He’s far happier to have a game with you or just a plain old cuddle will make Ozzie a happy boy.

We have introduced Ozzie to other breeds of dog and he’s given us no cause for concern around them. He would be suitable as an only pet or as a companion to another canine of any size.

Ozzie can manage laminate flooring.

No cats please.

Ozzie has spent a few days in foster care and his foster carer reports:

Ozzie is happy to use a crate and he has proved to be clean in it. When out of the crate, he needs regular toilet trips with positive reinforcement for “going” in the right place before he’ll become reliably house trained.

He’s been living with an 18 month old Cocker Spaniel who is still very playful. Ozzie is now well behaved enough with his small playmate indoors to not need a muzzle. He tolerates being jumped on by the spaniel to initiate a game of chase and Ozzie responds with his own play bow and happily wagging tail, but the dogs are still supervised when together.

Outside, as their play is rougher and the chasing games much faster than indoors a muzzle was utilised for peace of mind and safety.

Ozzie is easier to walk out when he is wearing a Canny Collar than when he is on an ordinary greyhound collar. After just a few days Ozzie has adjusted fairly well to wearing the previously unfamiliar head gear and he only occasionally rubs at it now. He’s seen cats whilst out walking and been told “leave it” and he responds fairly well remaining quite easy to control at these times. When out you can see that he is alert and looking for movement. He has seen other dogs on our walks and again been told to “leave” and then praised after walking past.

This boy hasn’t developed any interest in playing ball, but he has begun to play with soft toys. He stands still when having his teeth brushed and for being groomed too.

Ozzie enjoys being on a sofa next to you, but he will get down happily and lay on a dog bed if absolutely necessary!

He’s fine walking on tiled floors and he is able to negotiate stairs.

In summary Ozzie is a friendly boy and he loves to have humans make fuss of him. He’s met teenagers and is well behaved, but he might be too boisterous for small children at this time. He’s a sweet, fun boy and he’ll be a great addition to a family that sets and maintains clear boundaries.
