On Saturday 25th July the start of the kennel make over began.  We had a team of volunteers who came to help paint the kennel walls.  The paint used is a nice light colour so that the sun is reflected back away from the kennels themselves to keep the inside cooler and more comfortable for the dogs.  In one day the main three walls were given their first coat and the main building even managed to have a second coat.

The painting work has continued throughout the week and we are now pleased to say all three kennel sides have now had three coats of paint.  The work looks amazing and really brightens up the kennels.  Fingers crossed it helps to make the kennels cooler for the greyhounds too.

We are also going to be replacing some of the fencing and our gates will also be having a make over.  More news about these projects will be shared with you soon.

Warm Weather:

With the warm weather now upon us please be extra vigilant with your pets.  Provide them with extra water if leaving them alone on these warm days.  Try and walk them out of the hottest part of the day.  If your dog starts to show signs of heat exhaustion please put them in a cool room, lay damp towels over them to cool them down and seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.

Updates from the kennels:

We have some dogs who have passed their small dog test and with further socialisation around smaller breeds they will learn to accept them as friends.  These dogs are Hannah, Kiri and Titch.  Please see their pages in our ‘Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery’ for videos and more information of these successful sessions.

Some of our greyhounds have been attending local dog shows and going out to local towns/parks.  These hounds have helped to promote what excellent pets they can make, show the public the dogs that are up for adoption as well as advertising Greyhound Lifeline.  They have all been very well behaved around other breeds of dog and have shown how much they enjoy a good lean and cuddle!

New in:

We have a selection of canvas bags that are available to buy from our kennels during our opening hours.  They come in two different styles – long or short handles.  The greyhounds on the bags are all dog that have been homed by us.  Little Reggie, one of the RGT’s sponsor dog features on some of them.  Bags are priced at £6 each.

Tommy is two years old!  He is a fun loving boy with bags of energy.  We would love for him to find his very own home, he has far too much energy for kennel life and needs to find an active family who are looking for a playful chap.

Dogs in Foster Care:

Reggie, Willie, Titch & Suzi are in foster care. If one of our foster dogs interests you as a potential new family member then you simply need to contact us and we’ll arrange a mutually convenient date and time for you to meet him/her.

Bedding Appeal:

We are in need for blankets and duvets for our kennel residents.  If you have any old ones that you no longer need, we would love to take them of your hands.  Please note we cannot take any duvets that contains feathers. (They can take a long time to clear up if one of the hounds decides to find out what’s inside it)!  Thank you.

Stock Appeal:

We are out and about at many local car boots and dog shows over these Summer months.  We need your help! We are in need of stock suitable to sell at car boot fairs or at local fairs/events. The things we need the most are DVD’s, CD’s, children’s toys – including toy cars, jigsaws (adults and children’s), board games, console games and any boxed/unwrapped presents.

Used Postage Stamp and Ink Cartridge Appeal:

Many of you may already know that the Retired Greyhound Trust collect used postage stamps to raise funds for the greyhounds in their care. For some of you collecting the occasional stamp here and there and finally getting around to posting a collection off may be a bit of a nuisance. If you bring them along to Greyhound Lifeline we can send them off for you when we have collected a larger amount.  We also collect old mobile phones.

Fundraise for us using eBay:

You can sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. For ebay members only please visit their Sell for Charity page and enter “Greyhound Lifeline” in the Charity name area. If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box.
