Greyhound Lifeline News Update

Ben has moved out of the kennels and into foster care where he is doing very well. Ben is still needing a permanent home, so if anyone is interested in him or any other greyhound in our care please contact us.

Homing, we need your help:

Homing is proving disappointingly slow this month. By Tuesday we’ll have zero spaces at the kennels (with even our emergency/isolation kennel being occupied) and every foster home is also in use too.

Please can we ask you to cross post a link to our web site on your own Facebook or Twitter pages, to mention our dogs and what wonderful pets they make to work colleagues, acquaintances and/or family members. Any help you can give to publicise greyhounds as pets will be much appreciated.

Why are we worried? Well, sadly it’s frequently people’s animals that are the first to go when finances get tight (for greyhounds they may have been family pets, they may be race dogs in kennels or they may belong to trainers/syndicates or just about anyone else) there are also the usual relationship break ups and a variety of other scenarios to allow for too. The pressure is on for rescue centres everywhere, we’re not alone in this, but that doesn’t help find room for needy animals without places.

Recently updated greyhound descriptions:

Molly, Blue and Niki have updated descriptions. Dan has a new photo which shows how happy he is to live with his little spaniel foster sister. All Dan needs now is an adoptive home of his own.

Pet Blood Bank Emergency Session:

This session is being held on Thursday October 18th at Greyhound Lifeline’s kennels.

Pet Blood bank greyhound donors
Can your dog help to save lives by donating blood? The 3 greyhounds above and many others regularly donate.

Pet Blood Bank are always desperate for blood, we are lucky to have such fantastic support from our adopters and staff alike, but some sessions that they run have a very poor turn out and only a small amount of life saving blood is collected.

As a result, stocks are once again low. Pet Blood Bank have asked us to hold an emergency session to help them boost blood stocks nationwide.

All qualifying kennel residents will donate, but as we see a high turn over of dogs, several of our residents will not qualify due to being recently vaccinated, operated on or having needed medication. We would therefore be grateful if anyone whose dog did not attend the session on September 16th and who has not donated blood in the past 3 months would contact Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232222 to make an appointment for October 18th.

Every extra donor can save up to 4 other dogs’ lives so if you possibly can please help and book your dog in. Acceptance criteria apply and further information about what to expect can be found on our Pet Blood Bank Information page.
