Valentine's Day Greyhound Adoption - Romance is Alive!

Well it has been a very interesting start to the month and a very unusual one too. Four lucky greyhounds have been adopted so far and all four were greyhounds in foster care! Not a single kennel resident has yet been adopted in February (not to worry though, kennel hounds are moving on shortly to pastures new).

Romance isn’t dead! Ben the greyhound is officially adopted on Valentine’s Day. See our Greyhound Blogs for full details of this romantic tale.

If any of you think that you might like to foster a greyhound then please get in touch. We seem to be losing foster homes at a rapid rate, but for the very best of reasons of course. Please read our Fostering Information page if you think you might be able to help.

Homed Greyhounds:

Penfold, Ben, Lady and Georgie have been homed.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Rosie, Josie, Tiger, Ozzie and Star are reserved.

In Memory of Archie:

Our thoughts and sympathies go to our friend and colleague Carol whose lovely older lad Archie passed to Rainbow Bridge on Monday after a sudden and unexpected down turn in his health. Run free at Rainbow Bridge sweet Archie. You are missed terribly and remembered with great love by your heartbroken “mum” Carol.

New Entries in our Greyhound Blogs:

Paul’s Greyhound Blog has a romantic tale about a very special Valentine’s day.

Penny’s Greyhound Blog is completely new as Penny makes her debut as a blog author for us. Penny and her greyhound girl Suzie have recently moved to Hampshire. We were very pleased to accept Penny’s offer to write a greyhound blog from time to time for us and we hope that you will enjoy reading her entries.

Jet is now in foster care:

We are very pleased to tell you that our longer stay and very bald boy Jet is now in a nice warm foster home.  We’re hoping that some of his foster Mum’s renowned TLC will encourage Jet’s coat to re-grow. There is no medical reason for Jet to be so bald, he just has extremely sensitive skin and the constant winter coat wearing in has rubbed what little hair he did have pretty much off.

Thank you Mo, we are all very grateful to you for giving Jet somewhere warm and cosy to live. No doubt he’ll lap up the attention and new experiences as well.

Staff needed:

We still need to find an additional Monday morning volunteer kennel hand to work a full kennel shift as soon as possible. If you are available to start work between 8 and 8.30am and can work until 1pm or shortly there after on a Monday in both term time and in school holidays then perhaps you’d be interested in helping us?

The job is physically demanding at times and some heavy lifting is occasionally required. Own transport would be essential because we are not on a bus route. No experience is necessary as training will be given, but lots of common sense and a willingness to learn is a requirement of the job.

Financial remuneration would be the same as the rest of us, non existent – this is a voluntary post.

If you are interested in joining us then please call Marie on 07828 138378 or Jane on 07971 394184 to arrange an interview/trial session or email us.

Pet Blood Bank:

Our next routinely planned Pet Blood Bank session is on Sunday 17th March. If you have not already booked your dog in to become a lifesaver by donating blood then please call Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232222 as soon as you can. More information about canine blood donation can be found on our Pet Blood Bank Information Page.

There are still a few appointments left for the 17th March session, please help us to have a full session and save as many lives as we can by making a booking. Every donor can save up to four other dogs’ lives!

Bric a brac items are needed again:

Good quality new or used items suitable to sell on a bric a brac stall would be very welcome. It’s surprising how quickly the fete and fair season begins, if we start collecting now we should be well stocked for the fair season. Unwanted Christmas gifts very welcome.

Saara will be running a fundraising bric a brac stall at Cranleigh on Saturday 9th March for us so if you can help her be well stocked for the event we’d be very grateful.

Open Day 2013:

We have set the date of our 2013 Kennel Open Day and it will be held on Sunday 2nd June from 11am until 2pm. We’ll have lots of attractions, stalls and competitions for your to enjoy, so please make a note of the date in your diary and come along and join us for the biggest fundraising event of the year for us.

Don’t let Lungworm kill your dog!

Please be aware of Lungworm, it’s a killer that many of you won’t necessarily have heard of. It is spreading fast in the UK and many dogs have already died from it. Don’t panic however as Lungworm is very easy to prevent and equally if diagnosed early it can be treated very successfully too. Late diagnosis of Lungworm does not always have a happy ending however.

The following link will take you to a Lungworm Information site. For preventative treatment of lungworm you will need to contact your vet. Treatment/prevention of  Lungworm is by prescription medication only.

Fundraise for us using eBay

You can now sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time?
