Saffy has been homed – 21.9.24
Saffy is in foster care in Southampton, Hampshire, she arrived in our care on the 10th of July 2024 and she was born on the 13th of June 2020.
This sweet girl is housetrained; understands the rules of the house and understands the commands – ‘no’, ‘off’ ‘good girl’ and her name! Saffy has shown no interest in jumping up at the kitchen cupboards but she is a foody so it is best no food is left out! She is very gentle when she takes treats from your hand and waits patiently for her turn when it is feeding time, although can get quite excitable!
Saffy can be easily spooked and likes a small area she can hide in, until she feels brave enough to come out and try again. She loves her bed and prefers a big fluffy bed that she can sink into, this is her favourite kind of bed! During the day Saffy spends most of the day in the house, getting used to home living and is around several other greyhounds. She is quiet within the home, likes to cuddle up to another greyhound – male or female. Each morning she will greet you with a waggy tail, a lick on the hand and just be really happy to see you!
She is an affectionate lass, who enjoys being brushed and having snuggles with her close human friends, Saffy is learning that brushing your teeth is a good thing! She can be a little wary of new things, so will need time to adjust to new activities, although this time is shortening.
Saffy can be a little hand shy to unfamiliar people, this can make viewings really difficult for this little girl as she will not approach anyone new. She will take time to get to know a new person. Any new people visiting the home, she will avoid and take herself away into another room until they are gone, however Saffy is becoming braver and more inquisitive to new people, if new people ignore her she is more than likely to follow you around!
She likes to absorb the environment before greeting others but when she does she has a smiley face and a waggy tail (if you are lucky). Saffy likes her food so some nice smelly treats will win her over! This lass can get a little worried about loud noises and will look for her human for confidence. Saffy is a very sweet, gentle, natured girl.
She has made some good human friends that she sees daily and is beginning to seek out other humans now for affection.
Saffy could be an only dog if she had lots of human company but equally would do well with another dog of any size to boost her confidence.
She needs a home where there are no children as she is very scared of them and she just doesn’t know how to behave around them. She has started to play with soft toys but currently likes to do this when you are not watching her! I’m sure soon she will play with toys with her human friends too. Saffy loves play bowing with the other dogs and running around in the garden with them.
Saffy travels well within the car and enjoys exploring, quiet places. She is getting used to walking in parks, where she will meet others but prefers her quieter walks better. She can walk nicely on a lead and enjoys going out for her walks with her favourite people and dogs! Saffy can be spooked by loud bangs and will look to her owner for some reassurance.
This lass has shown she can be sociable with other breeds, she has met a range of other breeds out on her walks and has shown how polite she can be around them.
Saffy loves being outside in the garden, exploring and using her senses, sometimes if she hears an unfamiliar sound she will bark, she certainly has a very loud bark for a small girl that can at times sound like a cockerel! She will come back inside though if children start playing outside as for her their voices are a little bit scary still.
She has come a long way, in such a small amount of time. Saffy would make a lovely addition to a quiet home. She really does just want to please her new owner.
Please don’t let her shyness put you off this sweet little girl. She has so much that still needs unlocking within her but what a special little girl she has been with us.
This little girl will need several viewings, to get to know her new family before she will be ready to move on. Please be patient with her, as we will need to go at her pace.
