Goodbye June, Hello July

What happened to summer? The occasional warm and sunny day sees the greyhounds basking in the lovely sunshine and smiles on the faces of our volunteers too. Unfortunately those warm and sunny days have been few and far between lately. It’s very good news however that we have such a  hardy bunch of volunteer staff and dog walkers who continue to turn up and brighten the days of our residents even when the weather isn’t bright itself.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Let’s all hope for some sunshine soon, it makes the kennel days much more pleasant for greyhounds and humans alike.

Greyhounds homed in July:

Phoebe is the first of our greyhounds homed in July. She hasn’t gone far as her foster family are keeping her on a permanent basis. Good luck Phoebe.

Reserved Greyhounds:

Pippa, George and Tilly are reserved.

Updated greyhound descriptions:

Our toy testing results have now been added to the web site for Ben, Omaha, Molly, Blue, Star, Bizzle and Matty.

A new arrival is expected on Thursday (5/7/12), more information to follow once she is with us.

Please keep checking our  Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery for updates of greyhound descriptions generally as we add extra information fairly regularly.

Thank you GBGW Basingstoke

We would like to thank the organisers of the Basingstoke venue of the Great British Greyhound Walk who very kindly donated 50% of their proceeds raised on the day to Greyhound Lifeline. They also welcomed several of our representatives, homeless greyhounds and adopters and adopted hounds too. A lovely walk was had by all and it brought greyhounds as pets and the adoption of them into the public eye very well.

Staff Vacancy:

Can you help? From August we will need a kennel hand to assist with the kennel clean out, feeding and exercising our greyhounds on a Thursday morning (approx 8am until 1pm). No experience is necessary and training will be given, but you need to be physically fit, have lots of common sense, be willing to work hard in all weather conditions (including snow, rain and toe numbing freezing conditions, sometimes without running water).

Reliability, dedication to the dogs and your own transport are essential as we are not on a public transport route. Sorry, no wages are paid to anyone. Greyhound Lifeline are staffed 100% by volunteers and we need an extra volunteer to join our small, but happy team. If you are interested in joining us then please email us at [email protected] or call Marie on 07828 138378. Term time only working is possible, although some flexibility on that point would be appreciated.

Thank you to the following people:

Saara for raising £77 last Saturday running her bric a brac stall at Park Primary School’s summer fair in Aldershot. Saara also puts in a lot of time and effort advertising, packing and posting Greyhound Lifeline’s items for sale on ebay. Needless to say Saara’s effort have so far given us 100% positive feedback and raised money for us too of course. This work is generally unseen by most, but very valuable none the less.

Penny and Adrian for their ongoing jam and pickle making which continues to not only be very popular with staff and customers alike, but also raises significant funds to support the greyhounds in our care.

All those people who have sold items through ebay for charity (see below) and donated a proportion of their sale proceeds to Greyhound Lifeline.

Stock Needed

With the summer show, fair and fete season upon us we are in desperate need of all sorts of saleable items to stock our various fundraising stalls.

We need small items suitable as tombola prizes (e.g., stationery, smellies, small toys), larger items are also desperately needed to sell on bric a brac stalls or even ebay.

What do we want? Anything (except for clothing and food items) that are in good condition, look as new and that are complete and not broken.  We’ve sold dogs bowls, ornaments, stair gates, gift boxed unwanted Christmas presents, board games etc). Please have a look around your home, do you have anything that you’d be willing to donate?

New Greyhound Blogs:

Jo and Fiona both have new Greyhound Blogs on site.

Need a greyhound to live with a cat?

We currently have two available greyhounds in residence who have passed cats tests. Bizzle had good cat test pass and he should adapt fairly quickly to having feline house mates. Cloud passed too, but she’ll probably need someone experienced with re-training greyhounds around cats because she’s not “easy peasy” in this respect.

Open Day Photographs

Photographs from the recent kennel Open Day are on site for you to view.

Jam Jar Appeal:

We need more empty jam jars with lids please. Anyone that comes to the kennels occasionally, please ask your friends and neighbours to collect them too. We are very low on 1lb jars especially. This means that Penny and Adrian won’t be able to make much more home made jams or pickles for us to sell until we get more jars for them to use.

Pet Blood Bank:

Our next scheduled canine blood donor session is on Sunday September 16th. Please call Pet Blood Bank on 01509 232 222 to make an appointment for your dog to donate. Acceptance criteria apply; for more information please see our blood donation information page.

Looking to adopt a greyhound?

Please visit our Greyhounds Needing Homes Gallery to see details of all our available greyhounds.

We Still Need Foster Homes – Can you help?

If you think you might be able to foster a greyhound then please read our Greyhound Fostering Information page.

Sponsored Slim:

Fiona Selby is aiming to lose 2 stone in weight and has offered to raise sponsorship for Greyhound Lifeline through her efforts. Her local Weigh Watchers group in Northamptonshire will verify whether or not she succeeds and/or how much she manages to lose.

If you’d like to offer Fiona some incentive to succeed and help raise funds for us at the same time then please email us at [email protected] giving your name and address (including postcode) and details of how much you wish to sponsor either in total and we’ll fill in the form for you.

Those of you who pay UK tax please let us know whether you agree or not to us claiming Gift Aid on on your sponsorship to increase the amount we receive at no additional cost to you.

Fundraise for us using eBay

You can now sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. For ebay members only please visit their Sell for Charity page and enter “Greyhound Lifeline” in the Charity name area.

If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time?
