Happy Christmas

It’s Christmas!

We would like to wish all our volunteers and supporters a very Merry Christmas.

We have had another very successful year and we thank everybody who has supported us in so many different roles.

It has been a very different year to most; packing up our old kennels, moving and setting up in a new location.  The building work started as soon as we had moved, thanks to Chicubes we have purpose built kennels with covered runs.

Two of our recently installed kennels.

This new adventure will allow us to enrich the greyhounds who come into our care with so much more and allow us to prepare them better for home life.  We are very excited about this new chapter and look forward to 2023 when we can take in many more greyhounds waiting to find their own homes.

Christmas Fair:

We had a fantastic Christmas Fair, it was very cold but everyone wrapped up warm and kept the spirit of Christmas going throughout the two day event.

The Christmas Fair raised £1,243.35, this is an amazing amount and we are very grateful to everyone who made this amount possible.

Thank you to all our stall holders who turning up early and were there for the entire day, some working on both days.  All the donations that were given have helped raise this total, all who attended, including those fabulous greyhounds who shone brightly at the fair and showed the public what fantastic pets they make!

We are very proud of all our supporters who have continued to support us, the new supporters who have joined us and the success that we are continuing to make.  Thank you to everyone.

We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to working with you in the New Year, finding new homes for all the greyhounds that come into our care.

Christmas Homing Dates:

Please note that the last adoption day prior to Christmas will be Saturday 10th December 2022. Normal homing’s will re-start on 1st January 2023.

Only in exceptional cases and in homes where there are no children resident will we consider relaxing this policy. The forthcoming holiday period can be a very stressful time for people and as such it is not generally a good time to bring a new dog into the home.

This decision has been made with the welfare of our greyhounds at the forefront of our minds. We hope that you understand our decision.

Viewings for greyhounds and potentially reservations will still be ongoing throughout the holiday period, so please continue to check for updates on our website.

Information about Rawhide:

Please be careful when buying your dog their Christmas treats, many shops are now selling extra special treats.

Rawhide is made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hide being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are then used to spit the hide and give it, it’s “pure” white look.

On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

Please keep your dogs safe this Christmas by leaving these chews in the shops.

Be careful with all the extra ‘human’ food/treats available during this festive season especially mince pies, cooked bones, chocolate, nuts and alcohol.  There are many others, please keep them out of reach of your doggie friends who may become very ill if eaten.

Appeals:

Toys: If you have any soft toys that we could use for the kennel dogs we would be very grateful as our stocks are very low.

Fish: We are getting low on sardines and pilchards in tomato sauce which some of our kennel dogs are very partial too.

Ink Cartridges: Please save your empty cartridges, bring them along to the kennels so we can recycle them and make money for the dogs in our care.  Please note we cannot recycle laser/toner cartridges, thank you.

Event Updates:

Thank you to our street collection team who have been very busy over the last few months.

They have been at The Meadows in Camberley, where they raised £817.39.

A few of our greyhounds enjoying a well deserved treat at the Meadows!

More recently they had a ‘Jolly Christmas treat’ and collected at Longacres in Bagshott, £717.73 was donated for the greyhounds in our care.

Becks and Bumble working their charm at Longacres collection.

Our small but dedicated team of volunteers love being out and about, sharing their love for greyhounds as pets, answering questions and raising those funds that really make a difference to the care we can give to the greyhounds who come into our care.

Well done team.

If you would like to find out more about joining our fundraising team and helping us next year at some of these events, please do get in contact as we are always looking for new volunteers.

Our Services:

Regular visitors may be wondering about some of the services that we offer and how they’ll continue from a new area. We have been planning and all remains feasible:

Purchasing of goods can continue from Fleet. Contact us by email on [email protected] with your order for dog food, poop bags and other selected merchandise and we will arrange a mutually convenient collection day/time from the charity’s registered address. (Merchandise collections from Fleet can only include dry dog food, poop bags, toothpaste, plaque remover food additive, tick removers, toothbrushes, tooth gel and muzzles.)

Coming along to a street collection or other event? Order in advance and we can bring your order with us.

Mail order facilities are now available so we can ship items to you for an additional shipping cost (excludes dog food & other bulky items).

Payments accepted by card, bank transfer or cash.

100% of the profit from merchandise sales goes back to supporting the dogs in our care, we remain as we always have been fully staffed by volunteers.

Corn removal and nail clipping will still be available in Fleet for your adopted greyhounds, but it will be by prior appointment only and available on just 1 day per month. Advance dates will be published as they are set. If you’d like to purchase goods at the same time as bringing your greyhound for a pedicure, we’ll just increase your appointment time. Don’t forget to pre-book your merchandise order though or you may be disappointed.

Walking the greyhounds:

This can be arranged by prior appointment.  Contact us by email on [email protected] or by phoning 07769348310 for more information about how this can work.

Car-Boot Items:

We will continue to need car boot sale items donated. If you have anything suitable please email [email protected] or alternatively contact us on [email protected]. These items are vital to our success as they bring in considerable and much needed funds for the greyhounds in our care.

Having a pre or post Christmas clear out?  We would love to have your items, please email us what you have available to ensure our car-boot team can sell it and then we can arrange a drop off.  Thank you.

Sale of Goods:

If you are local to our new site, you will be able to order your shop goods and then a pick up address will be given to you.  You can contact us by email ([email protected]) or by phone 07769348310.

We have recently introduced a mail order service, for most of our products.  Food & bulky items are excluded. A small P&P additional cost will be added to your order.  Don’t forget that 100% of profits will directly support the greyhounds in our care.

Same Mission:

We hope you are as excited about this new adventure as we are. We may be working from a different location & in a different way but our mission and reason for being remains the same.

We will always be there for greyhounds waiting to come in, those in our care already and most importantly support remains available after adoption.  Our care/advice is for the dogs’ lifetime.

Amazon Wish List:

In order to furnish this new facility with items to enhance the greyhounds’ lives we have compiled an Amazon wish list of items they would benefit from having. We will be very grateful for any items received.
