Happy Christmas Everyone!

We would like to wish all our volunteers and supporters a very Happy Christmas and to say a huge ‘Thank You’, for continuing to support the work we do through these very challenging times.

Our Christmas Fair 2021.

It has been another difficult year for many charities: raising funds for the animals in their care.  During this pandemic Greyhound Lifeline has grown in strength with finding homes for our lovely greyhounds: helping existing greyhound families, new families, working with an ever-growing number of greyhound trainers and especially all the greyhounds that have come to us, giving them the time and training needed to find them their true homes.  We wouldn’t have been able to do this without your emotional & physical support of monetary donations as well as other donations too – dog food, dog equipment, fundraisers, bedding, taking dog coats to wash and mend and so much more!

Sable (left) & Tin Tin say a big ‘THANK YOU!’

Over this year we have changed our way of working to ensure our greyhounds get the very best care and our online support has grown significantly too.

We are a lifeline not only for the greyhounds but their owners too and we will always be here to help and assist those that need us.

Please be careful over Christmas to make sure all your hounds stay as safe as possible and those extra, human, food treats are kept out of sight and reach of your our furry friends!

We hope everyone has an enjoyable Christmas with friends and family and we look forward to working with you in the New Year.

Christmas Homing Dates:

Please note that the last adoption day prior to Christmas will be Monday 6th December 2021. Normal homing’s will re-start on 1st January 2022.

Only in exceptional cases and in homes where there are no children resident will we consider relaxing this policy. The forthcoming holiday period can be a very stressful time for people and as such it is not generally a good time to bring a new dog into the home.

Bee who was homed recently with his new family.

This decision has been made with the welfare of our greyhounds at the forefront of our minds. We hope that you understand our decision.

Christmas Opening:

Please note if you would like to buy goods from our onsite shop, it will be closed from Christmas Day (25th December) until Tuesday 28th December 2021, this will allow our team to give more focus to the greyhounds in our care during this festive period.

A small visitor who came to visit during our Christmas Fair week!

Please be reassured that our kennel dogs will be well looked after over this festive period, we will still be onsite caring for our kennel greyhounds 24/7 but we will also be giving our kennel hands some much needed TLC too!

Most of this year we have been running on a skeleton staffing; to ensure we could all keep safe and continuing to help the greyhounds, who have needed our help.

We are still taking adoption enquiries through this festive period, some viewings may still take place but we will be concentrating our time, energy and happiness on the greyhounds that we currently have with us.

Vegas who is reserved and now counting down the sleeps until he can join his new family!

Please do get in contact if you are considering adopting a greyhound, if we do not have any suitable greyhounds we can add your details to our waiting list and we would hope that we can find you the right match in the early part of the new year.  Please get in contact with us by either phoning – 07769348310 or by email on [email protected] and we will be happy to talk to you about adopting.

A Change To Our COVID restrictions:

As COVID rules and restrictions tighten, from the Government again, we will continue to stay partially closed to the public, please call us on 07769348310 to book an agreed time.

For ALL shop orders, we ask that you give us more than 24 hours notice, so we can collate your items and get them ready for your collection.  We have made this difficult decision to tighten our rules again to keep our kennel hands as safe as possible.  We will continue to take your orders and get them ready as quickly as possible but please remember we are still working on a skeleton staffing rota.  All items that are available to purchase can be found on our website under the word merchandise.

Nail clippings, corn removals and teeth scaling will all still be taking place but they will now be completed outside of our centre until restrictions are reduced again.

Casper who came to visit during our Christmas Fair.

We value your support during this difficult period and are very grateful for your patience, some appointments may over run, with the extra cleaning between each one.

Kennel News:

We are very excited that our first big event of the year, our ‘Christmas Fair Week’ has been a huge success!

We saw lots of past, adopted greyhounds coming back to say hello, past walkers & supporters (before COVID), new fundraising volunteers and also some very much welcome new folk to support our event.

It was lovely to meet so many people, have a catch up, some people/volunteers have not been onsite for two years, the mulled wine was a big success too!

We had lots of goodies for people to buy and in turn help raise funds for the greyhounds in our care.  Aqua Jewellery joined us for the event, some lovely Christmas gift items were being snapped up too.

Our car boot team also provided us with lots of pickles and marmalades which too were quickly being snapped up!

We hadn’t forgotten our four and three legged friends either – some tasty treat bags were a favourite and some were even having a coat or snood brought for them too!  I think some were more excited about the tasty treats and toys that they had instead but at least they were going to look very trendy in their new clothes, over the Christmas festival!

Over the week we raised £1,500 through the sale of stock items, Jewellery, painted bottle lights, doggie treats, a tombola and some generous donations too.  We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible and to all of you that came along and made this event so successful.  Thank you!

Christmas Appeal:

Are you able to buy a small extra present this Christmas? If you are then our kennel residents would love to receive something from our wish list!

During the year people have been very generous and we have had regular top ups of dog meat, food, treats but some of our everyday items are running low.  They are so beneficial to the ‘everyday use’ within the daily kennel shift.  These items may seem a little odd but without them our greyhounds wouldn’t get the best care that they so deserve!

Bin bags
Cable ties
Grain or Gluten Free Dog treats
Dog toothpaste (Dorwest)
Dog toothbrushes
Vet wrap
Calming collars
Evening Primrose Capsules
Burts Bee Baby Ointment
Ostrich bones (no raw-hide please)

To drop off a Christmas gift please ring the centre on 07769348310 or email us and we can arrange a suitable day and drop off place with you, this will help keep us all safe.
