New Greyhounds Arrive

Arrivals:

Ginny (aged 6) and Lucy (aged 2) were the planned arrivals today and they join Matty (aged 4) as being our most recent additions to the kennel residents. Details of all our available greyhounds can be found in our Greyhound Needing Homes gallery.

Having said that, two unplanned arrival boys will join us tomorrow. Ash and Cody, through no fault of their own, need to come in from a home environment. They will once again take us to absolute capacity at the kennels. We really do need foster homes in order to alleviate the pressure of having no room left. We do not want to be forced to turn away any greyhound who needs our help.

If you think you might be able to foster a greyhound then please read our Greyhound Fostering Information page.

Toxic Product Warning:

We have been warned by one of our supporters, who is also an experienced veterinary nurse of the dangers to all dogs of chicken manure pellets (used as fertiliser for gardens). Just a few mouthfuls of this stuff is enough to cause a fatal haemorrhagic diarrhoea in dogs! Please spread the word amongst your doggie owning friends as it seems that all the potassium and other minerals in this product actually destroys the Gastro-Intestinal tract and will almost certainly result in fatalities.

Fleet Half Marathon:

Well done to Ed Harris for completing the Fleet Half Marathon and raising funds for Greyhound Lifeline through sponsorship in the process. If all monies are collected successfully he will have raised in excess of £265 for Greyhound Lifeline.

Homed Greyhounds:

Imi was the first greyhound to go home in April. Susie, Bella, Ernest, Ivy, Archie, Henry and Rose all found their forever homes during March.

Cat Test Passes:

Bizzle, Abbie, Champ, Alfie, Phoebe, Jack and Harry have all passed cat tests and with caution in the early days they would be able to learn to live safely with cats. Phoebe is actually cat safe rather than a simple cat test pass.

Foster Dog Updates:

Jack has settled happily into foster care with Lucy. She is one of our most experienced foster carers and Jack is proving to be a wonderful dog and a very good influence on Lucy’s own dogs too we’re told.

Tara has turned into a real lady in a home environment. She’s living in a busy home with other dogs/bitches (including a small terrier). Clean, quiet, able to be left and sociable with children and other dogs. Why she is still waiting for her home, we don’t actually know.

Turbo has recently gone into foster care where he is doing very well indeed. He’s also quiet, able to be left and generally well behaved. Turbo’s only quirk is that he can be very stubborn about getting into cars. Sometimes he will and sometimes he won’t.

Abbie remains the perfect foster dog. We don’t understand why this gentle and perfectly behaved girl has not been snapped up already. Abbie has passed our cat test.

Phoebe is doing well in her foster home and she is cat safe (a term we very rarely use) and able to be left with canine company. A loving girl just waiting for a home with another dog where she can get plenty of all breed socialising and exercise every day.

Could You be a Greyhound Blog Author?

New site content is needed in the form of our Greyhound Blogs. Please contact us if you would like to write a greyhound blog and have it appear on our web site.

Our archive greyhound blogs are still able to be seen, but some new content from existing authors or some new authors altogether would be very welcome.

Sponsored Walk:

The Isle of Wight Branch of the RGT are holding their annual sponsored walk to raise funds for the RGT on Sunday 22nd April along the Southsea sea front. The walk begins at 2pm from the Eastney Swimming pool and the distance is approximately 6 miles. Representatives from Greyhound Lifeline are very welcome to join in (and having gone before it is a lovely day out with lots of greyhounds and owners in attendance).

To obtain a sponsor form and/or further information please call Sue from the Isle of Wight RGT on 01983 300332 or 07933 785696 or call Bill on 02392 786132. Any well behaved dog of any breed is welcome to take part.

Sponsored Slim:

Fiona Selby is aiming to lose 2 stone in weight and has offered to raise sponsorship for Greyhound Lifeline through her efforts. Her local Weigh Watchers group in Northamptonshire will verify whether or not she succeeds and/or how much she manages to lose.

If you’d like to offer Fiona some incentive to succeed and help raise funds for us at the same time then please email us at [email protected] giving your name and address (including postcode) and details of how much you wish to sponsor either in total or per pound weight lost (bearing in mind that there will be up to 28 pounds lost) and we’ll fill in the form for you.

Those of you who pay UK tax please let us know whether you agree or not to us claiming Gift Aid on on your sponsorship to increase the amount we receive at no additional cost to you.

Annual Kennel Open Day

We have set the date for our 2012 Kennel Open Day. It’s going to be on Sunday May 20th from 11am through to 2pm. We’ll have lots of stalls and fun events, plus a parade of our “stars of the show”, those greyhounds still waiting for adoption.

Entry and parking will be free, although a donation of canned dog food or fish (tuna, sardines, pilchards etc) in oil, spring water or tomato sauce would be most welcome. Absolutely no fish in brine though please as salt is poisonous to dogs!

More information about events and stalls will be published nearer the day.

Fundraise for us using eBay

You can now sell items on ebay and choose to donate between 10% and 100% of your sale price to Greyhound Lifeline. If you are an ebay member you could also simply donate by using your Paypal account. If you are a UK tax payer please also tick the Gift Aid box. Please read ebay’s terms and conditions carefully as we cannot be held responsible for any problems you may encounter. Could you sell your unwanted items and help us to buy food, provide veterinary care and generally look after the greyhounds in our care at the same time?
