Fiona's Greyhound Blog - Monty Goes to Work (P.A.T. dog duty)

Monty made his debut as a Pets as Therapy visiting dog at a local hospice on Thursday. He was a real star, calm, quiet and gentle, 3 words that anyone who remembers him from the kennels will know are not usually associated with Monty!

Being a dog who just loves a fuss he was in his element going from one person to another being patted and stroked and told how handsome and lovely he is. He managed to encourage many people to rub him in his favorite place (along his throat) and never got tired of standing still while patients and staff alike indulged him. Many commented on what a good height he is for people who find it difficult to move in or from chairs.

On the whole Monty proved to be such a good advertisement for greyhounds that one staff member asked how to go about finding greyhound re-homing centres having lost her own dog a while ago.

Sadly, living in Nottingham, I cannot recommend Lifeline, it’s a little out of area, but I was able to suggest contacting the R.G.T to find the most local centre. Hopefully Monty being on such good behavior might help another greyhound find a home before too long.

I am really proud of how well it went on this visit, how relaxed and good Monty was. Next week Aisha is up, I’ll let you all know how she gets on.

  1. Hi Fiona

Sounds like Monty is a natural and doing a fabulous ***. It’s fantastic that more and more greys are becoming therapy dogs – well done to you and Monty.
